    Perhaps?

What I can comment upon is that Pilsner Urquell has a pleasing malty flavor above and beyond the carmelization aspect for my personal palate. A complex and enjoyable malt backbone IMO.
And that is a possibility as well I suppose.

It seems popular among some BAs to just view decoction mashing as a sort of on/off sort of thing but as you and I know there are a myriad of process decisions as regards how decoction mashing is implemented. We have already discussed the topic of how the extracted decoction liquid/malt is specifically boiled (e.g., direct flame heat vs. steam heat). But there several other decision points, for example:
    • How many decoctions steps to implement (e.g., single vs. double vs. triple decoction steps).
    • Specific temperatures selected as part of the decoction/step mashing.
    • Duration of time spent at each step.
    • Etc.
And then there is also the non-decoction mashing decision of specific malt brand used. For example, Pilsner Urquell purchases their own Moravian Barley variety(s) and produces their own malt at the brewery.

I could go on and on and... about other brewing decisions that need to be made and each decision will have organoleptic impacts on the resulting beer (perhaps some decisions more important than others as regards flavor impacts).

Each brewer/brewery gets to decide how they want to brew a given brand of beer.

As the French would say: Vive la différence!

    Cheers!

P.S. I enjoyed many Czech Pale Lagers during my two week visit to Prague/Czech Republic a couple of years ago (e.g., Bernard Světlé Ležák 12°, Kamenice Světlé Ležák 12, Únětický Světlé – both 10° and 12°, etc.) and all of those beers were brewed via decoction mashing. Having stated that I have equally enjoyed other Pilsners, both brewed in Europe and America, that were not produced via decoction mashing.

Notch Brighton was an awesome set up. Enjoyed some Pivo and Alt today under a heater. Excellent time and crew to shoot the shit with. That damn Pivo….

Had the Vienna and of course Černé today.

Vienna is really good, totally worth making a trip over to have some.

And of course, Černé is Černé.

Any updates on the monthly subscription? Did anyone else get an email about it this month? I haven't seen anything on it.

Impeccable timing on my part, as the email from Rob at Notch about the monthly mailing came out about 15 minutes after my post.
Something to look forward to later this week now.

That’s the fun part, we usually aren’t 100% sure and have fun trying to guess.
    For example:
I know Notch posted about the return of Infinite Jest, but we don’t know if they canned it.
Would they can the big Cerne as a Voll Project beer?
We saw in an earlier post that they have Swans in the tank, but is it ready and is it going into cans?
    How about another British ale?

I can’t wait for my delivery. (Hoping for some Standard, it’s been a while)

Swans has been on tap for weeks now, unless you’re talking about a newer batch?

Oops, I was just listing examples of things that might be posted here when a new shipment is announced.
You know, when we all play detective and go back through BA, Insta, and tweets from Chris to try to guess what’s in the next box (insert “what’s in the box?!” gif from Seven)
I honestly don’t have any idea what’s coming this week, and I think that’s great!

If your next box has a human head in it I would immediately contact Notch's customer service.
