I can't handle this kind of news any more. Going to ask my employer if I can "work from Chicago" between November and February.

Curious what others have to say about blackberry Finn, but perhaps more so about Vanilla Deth.

Looking through untappd, and Vanilla seems to have a pretty wide range of scores, but I keep seeing dry. I suspect that this will end up settling down around 4.33. Not bad, of course, but I kind of expected more. Maybe I have hyped it so much internally that even a 4.3 is disappointing ? I dunno.

Drinking a Vanilla now. It’s glorious imo. Continues to be one of my favorite Deth variants. Perfect amount of vanilla. Complements the base without covering up any of its intricacies. Would love a Vanilla Cafe (Latte?) variant some day (not sure if they had a one off at one point that I missed out on).

If this batch of Vanilla Deth is anything like the first batch, it was never an “in your face” vanilla beer which I could see disappointing some. Maybe someday they will make a Supermassive Vanilla Deth

Anybody know when Vanilla Deth starts showing up at Binny's? I will be in town this weekend but not very near the Brewpub or Taproom.

I think it’s usually over a week from release. Someone else with direct knowledge may know, but I don’t think I can personally recall seeing them at binnys the SAME weekend of release.

the only place that may have it is Orange and Brew in Downers Grove. I believe they had a pre-release party on Thursday, so it’s possible they got the cans at the same time as the kegs.

Had a Blackberry Finn last night. Starts with sweet and earthy blackberry, with very little tartness. Then the dry barleywine shines through with plenty of spirit and lumber, and a whiff of butterscotch and toasted bread at the end of the long finish. I definitely liked it and am looking forward to drinking more, but I don't feel that I need a second 4pk like I thought I might.

I’m glad that I rolled the dice on a second 4 pack of this one. I agree, very little tartness and the alcohol sweetness shines. Yes there’s a lot of blackberry there but I feel it’s much less jammy than their fruited offerings usually land. I think a similar double-barrel treatment for the fruited stouts would be a huge leap forward.

I’m a straight jacket fanboy so take this how you will, this years straight jacket is one of the best ever.

Thought the BF was very good. Somewhat mixed on their fruited offerings overall but really enjoyed this one. Jammy, not too tart, not too sweet.

Went to the Peoria tasting on Thursday….loved straight jacket, liked Finn….and probably spent the most time with vanilla deth. Smelled great, but just didn’t love it neither cool nor as it warmed. Not atypical for me to be luke warm on a vanilla BA stout, however. I’ll probably buy the crap out of SJ when it lands here. Happy as all hell that they had a tasting event here

It's actually got a little bit more vanilla than batch 1 did, at least to my palate/memory. I thought batch 1 was very good and liked this one even more, especially as it warmed up. The vanilla really shines through this time, very nice beer.

I echo the positive takes on blackberry as well. I was skeptical and I believe they had blackberry finn on tap like two years ago as a release variant, and I remember not loving it. This time though? They crushed it. They took a much, much more careful hand with it than they did with something like honey jacket and it really paid off. Everything is perfectly integrated and balanced. Me and the missus always hit up the release events and decide on a single 4 pack to get based upon the tastings, and we went with BF.

The variant (and maybe beer) of the night was Very Special Old Flak Jacket.

A single Heaven Hill barrel of sweet component Barleywine and dry component Ryewine aged three years, plus a couple hosefuls of twice-barreled dry Barlewine, just as a treat. Cooked sugar, vanilla, and enough maple to warrant dual citizenship in Canada make an amicable ruckus before a prompt finish compliments of three years resting in American oak.

It was sensational on every level.

Revolution just keeps on rewarding me for giving them my money over Goose/AB.

Oh, and rum barrel VSOJ is just weird. Definitely something that doesn't need to exist.

I thought it was really good and I pretty much don't like any rum barrel beers.
Straight Jacket is so good. Hilarious it's only $25.

Agreed - this was a damn near perfect beer for me. Just incredible.

I liked it a lot, but I can see how someone wouldn't care for it.

Happy all 3 still available today. Somewhat glad I skipped out on GI after prop day pick up, looked way too packed.
What I love about rev is they really like the base beer and barrels used shine.
Rum was good. I generally don’t care for rum aged beers.
    Agree with above on flak.
Van Jack very sherry forward at first but after warming up it was amazing, vanilla notes came out. Really appreciate what they do with adjuncts vs pastry stouts.
