I searched and didn't see anything specific to Louisville for a current beer scene. Any recommendations/suggestions for a one day/night trip? We are going to Gatlinburg area and are going to spend a day in Louisville on the way. Coming from Iowa, through Indianapolis. Looking for best breweries to visit, grab and go, bottle shops etc... Will have family with kids, but they are used to their Dad and his habits!
Did Louisville in 2018 on way to Reds/Cubs series. Against the Grain was very good. Right next to Angel’s Envy. Mile Wide Brewing was worthy. Holy Grale. Very cool place in old church. Might be temporarily closed?
Holy Grale is closed still I think. Add Gravity and Atrium to the breweries above as a start and their are others. Old Towne Liquors and Valu Market (both on Bardstown Road) are a good start for bottles.
ATG is ok, shows it's age. Gravely is hipstery, beer is good, service is inattentive and stand-offish. Mile Wide is very good, cool vibe. Monnik is good as well.
Went with a group of guys for my bourbon/beer bachelor party in September. As for breweries: Favorite: West Sixth Pretty Good: Gravely, Mile Wide OK: AtG, Akasha Now granted, I am spoiled by a great beer scene in Charlotte, but overall the scene is "ok". We didn't have a car so we limited our spots to walk/short uber locations. If you only have a day...book some distillery tours during the day and breweries in the evening
I’ve lived here about 10 years. The beer scene is not spectacular but it is getting better. I think it has always taken a backseat to bourbon, which is why most people visit here. Personally, I think the newcomer, Atrium has the best beer. They do several styles and tend to do them all pretty well. They change up their offering continually so I can’t say that any certain beer will be available, but I really like their Triple IPA, Three Nights Only, and their coffee stout, Bean. Would agree on Monnik for food.
Anyone know if Bo and Luke is available at the brewery? And I would recommend Monnik and Mile Wide as the top breweries. Haven't been out that way in a couple years though
What's my best option for finding a nice mix of farmhouse and mixed fermentation stuff? Anywhere other than holy grale?
AtG might have its collab saison with Turtleback Ridge. Currently, IMO, the best mixed ferm stuff in Kentucky is at Turtleback Ridge. However, Dec. 18 is their last day of the winter season, they won't be open again until spring. If you want bottles, I suggest contacting them via FB. The brewer is responsive and could coordinate a meetup. Sawstone might have bottles of the saison collab with Turtleback, and it's recommended, though pricey (18/500ml). None of this is anywhere near Louisville, though.
Just wanted to give a thumbs up to Goodwood Brewing. Saw this in a Brewbound newsletter: Louisville, Ky. — Goodwood Brewing and Spirits is partnering with Mayfield locals Jake Guhy and Luke Lewis Band to host a benefit event on December 30, 2021 at the Goodwood Taproom. 100% of proceeds and donations from the event will go directly to Mayfield High School fund and City of Mayfield rebuild, both of which were devastatingly affected by recent tornadoes that hit Western Kentucky. Can't imagine going thru so many life altering events during this holiday season, along with the Covid threats. Maybe this is only a baby step, but at least it is a step in the right direction. Sending only positive thoughts.
