I'll answer the open question first: Actually, yes. Even though I know that "citrus" is a word that will come up very commonly, I would try to identify what exact citrus fruit(s) I detected: orange, grapefruit, lemon, etc. I would yes, also embellish and be as eloquent as possible. I have a very "all or nothing" personality, meaning if I do something, I go all the way. That's actually what kept me from starting to review beers for the longest time: I felt I wasn't worthy to essentially be a beer judge. But I relocated to a place where I knew very few people and had a lot of free time as a result, so I actually started for 2 reasons: so I could remember what beers I'd already had and boredom. Lol. Anyways, yeah, if I write a review it's gonna take me 5 minutes, bare minimum. Which might not seem like a lot of time, but when you're out with friends and you have a new beer, it's kinda rude to be on your phone reviewing a beer when you're supposed to be socializing*

I guess, to summarize, if I was going to start reviewing beers again, it would be so I get paid for it. Again, if I find a reason to go for Level 2 Cicerone you bet your ass I'd be back on here reviewing like crazy. But right now, beer is still just a secondary hobby for me. My primary hobby is music (that I hope to make into a career) and my occupation is ride share driver, and both of those take up enough of my time. There just aren't enough hours in the day

*Yes I know I could simply rate it real quick and review it later but, not to be snobby (in an anti-beer way. Lol. Never thought I'd be going the other direction), but there are so many things on my to-do list that are higher than "review that beer I rated the other night"

PS Very ironic this thread should pop up when it did. I'm at Zebulon right now and their Malverde West Coast IPA is one of the best beers I've tasted in months. I might do a quick review of it. We'll see if I have the time

    ^^This too

Although, correct me if I'm wrong, it's RateBeer that owns BA right?

No, unless there has been some recent change, Untapped bought BA a couple years ago. RateBeer in fact might be owned by one of the macro breweries but I never pay much attention to it so I’m not sure.

I’ve reviewed 20 beers on BA in just over 3.5 years. Why don’t I review more? I’m an impulse buyer and don’t read reviews with the intent of looking for a beer to buy, and I’m not convinced most other folks are much different. Plus, I drink too fast and remember too slow to write stuff down.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure BA was not bought by Untappd but by Next Glass, which also owns Untappd.

I'll rate beers when I feel like it, but I am not compelled to do so. I'm competitive in many ways but not about beer. I have my own system and it is private mostly.

I used to review every single beer but have long ago stopped reviewing anything pretty much when I realized I'm the only one reading them!

All I do these days is add the occasional beer to the database here and do a basic rating.

As others have said, it's rude and awkward in social situations, and my memory of a beer the day after having a few is less than reliable. As someone who rarely drinks the same beer twice I'm not sure how much the two beers I've already had are effecting my opinon of the third. And things are even more convoluted on those day where it 6 or 7.

I've judged enough beers in competitions, I don't need to judge rate beers online.

I decided early on the number system was something I didnt want to get involved with. Is there such a thing as a perfect beer? 5? In the eyes of the be holder yes, but inreality no - because nature is not perfect. That being said Ive been hooked on NBS/NBW since shortly after I joined BA. I like the poetic nature and the fact that we can express more than our opinions on beers: Family, work, pics and everyday and week occurrences. Makes me feel like we are all one big family. I still like the format presently but the original NBS was my favorite. I used to really make an event out of Sunday afternoons. Pictures, stories etc. Ive backed off a bit because cooking in a restaurant takes alot of time. And besides cooking I do a crapload of writing. Sometimes I just want to enjoy a beer and feel obligated to write several paragraphs. I dont think just writing a number next to L, S, T, F, O is very interesting or helpful to anyone. I have no problem with folks writing thousands of reviews. I know it aint easy. To each his/her own.
    Cheers

People contribute to this site in many different ways, so you shouldn't be expected to review. Many contribute equally, if not more, through posts and articles and facts shared being just as important. I only review because I like to, and feel it a bit cathartic to try and articulate why I like or don't like something (I have no idea if they are helpful or in anyway well written, just something I ended up liking to do) That is it, and I appreciate I have this outlet for it, finding the other unnamed sites entirely lacking in how I go about this. So enjoy this site for what it is, contribute what you can, and in the way you feel easiest and best from your point of view.

I used to but I always preferred reviewing places rather than beers anyways.

I haven't lived in an area with multiple places to drink for so long I quit going out to drink, and living outside of a small town for the past 40 something years would require driving to and from. When I do see review of places I feel less confident than with beers because there may be 1000 reviews of a beer but 5 reviews of a bar.

For me it just depends on how I feel at the time. I drink a lot of beer and try to expand my range. I agree at times it can be overwhelming to try to analyze a beer when all I want to do it enjoy it. Most of the time if I review the beer will be well after I have had it.
    Cheers!

^ ^ ^ this, although overwhelming might be not be dead on for me, maybe more along the lines of forgetting or being disinterested in the interruption of stopping and writing it down.
It's akin to folks being so intent on capturing an experience (concert, protest, Grand Canyon, etc.) on their phone that they fail to fully enjoy the experience in the moment.
