    Has anyone seen a release of this favorite for this year?

    The Julian-like date on the back label would end in a U for the 2021 bottling.

    Funny I was just looking at untappd to locate, checked the place that had the maibock this year. No luck so far, I’ll post if I do find it.

    Place down the street did just get in weltenburger dunkel, helles, and 1050 cans though. A pleasant surprise after years of absence.

    Im Deutschland the Spezial would be the HB Delicator.

    I believe the Winterzwickl is just the Dunkel unfiltered.

    L278U is what’s on the six pack of bottles I picked up from Thursday. I can’t get post image to work but I’ll upload pics when it does. This used to be my favorite winter seasonal until COVID ruined my taste buds. No matter the brand all doppelbocks taste like soy sauce.

    Well that certainly sucks. Sorry to hear that.

    But yeah, that date code is this year's release -- hope it makes it across the country.

    They were one of my favorite styles. After COVID I’ve had andechs, korbinian, asam bock, and winter spezial all taste like soy sauce. I have some optimator I’ll be giving a try soon. What’s weird is stouts and porters taste fine.

    If I was to guess, I'd say the roasted barley and warm-fermented esters in the stouts and porters are more complex and doing more to muddle your palate than the clean-fermenting lager yeast and smoother toasted malts of the Doppels.

    It's to the point with a bigger, local liquor retailer that I can't trust their website, so I have to resort to good ol' fashioned beer hunting.

    Yeah, I hear ya. I don't trust most places either, but I know this store well enough that their site is pretty consistent with their inventory.
