2022 Beer Memberships: Adding, Keeping, and Dropping

Thought about rejoining Bruery RS for the society events now that we're sort of entering a post-COVID world (assuming Omicron doesn't mess it up). I do miss the Anniversary party, Black Tuesday party, and Society Member Mondays.

I like the PP option of just paying for the bottles you want and not having any included bottles. Moksa still putting out bangers and their IPA's are getting a lot better. Was thinking about Urban roots membership but didnt see any included bottles for $500 a year. Sure they gave you $200 gift card and 20 percent off at the brewery, but what does the other $300 get you?

 

It looks like you get "1" Bottle of Demons Run Barrel Select. But that is a lot for early access and the 20% discount.

It SOLD OUT in just a few hours. So go figure?

With Telework, I am not in Downtown Sac much anymore, so it just wasn't worth it for me.

 

Yeah one bottle and that's it. Anyone with a membership want to chime in?

 

Renewals are open right now but they haven't fleshed out details of next year's lineup, nor have they been clear about when renewals end, when new slots open, etc. My friend that I split with and I decided to go ahead and renew, but the communication is...yeah. If they communicate anything about new memberships, I'll try to remember to respond here and tag you, but I wouldn't count on them effectively communicating anything ahead of time.

I signed up for this (first year). I was also surprised at the cost vs what you get but we buy a lot of Urban Roots and the brewery is close to us so figure it would be worth a shot this year. They also mentioned monthly meet ups for members as well as a perk of the membership.

 

I get the 20 percent off purchases is good, but then again there is like over $200 that you are paying and what are you getting for it? 500-200 gift card-one bottle-glassware-20% discount. Monthly meet up? ehhhh i guess. sorry i'm not trying to shit on the membership

 

Yeah I have no idea how it'll turn out. I'm keeping a spreadsheet of everything so at least next year I'll be able to come back and say if it was worth it financially

At the middle of November, I was like man I should gracefully bow out of SARA Cellar, I have 40 some beers in the fridge. Then by New Year's Eve and I'm down to 10, I was like, oh how silly of me.

Keep:
SARA - Only taking the included bottles mostly.
Private Press - Such a beautiful thoughtful club, worth every dime. It is luxury.
HPB Bottle Frens - Only take the included bottles and the little discount.
Firestone Walker Brewers Collective - Usually give away the Barrelworks and cocktail stuff and keep the stouts and barleywines.

 

IMO, at least just max out on stouts (or at least barrel aged) rarely a stinker so far.

 

So is the last abbey club gone? I saw something about it being paused, but you can still buy it in the store, wtf? Read about a ddg club, weird

added Xul! Kinda can out of left field, I had the change to try a couple of their beers last year. I had someone who was willing to pick up so I pulled the trigger. Fingers crossed it’s a fun club. The price was definitely right, let’s see how their ba bottles turn out

dropping Horus most likely, it’s gotten just too expensive, tho I will admit there was a ton of ba bottles this year, the ponzy scheme with the doses in september kinda turned me off
