Monkish Brewing (2021)

Got there today at 2:30pm, PACKED! Started to die down at 3pm and became much more manageable. Sucks Monkish can’t work out some deal with Unami to use their patio which was completely empty for the two hours I was there … not to mention how strange it is that the door INSIDE Monkish leads to Unami patio but you can’t go out there.

 

Was busy around 4 yesterday but pretty easy to find a table and no real waits for beer. Great line up. Love that it is a short walk from Modern Times.

 

I didn’t see much business going on in Umami. The one time I ate there (when Anaheim Brewing was open) it was nuthin’ special. Overprice burger n bun. Maybe they will eventually close shop and Henry will swipe in and take control of the whole building? You never know. Once they get the growler fills in order I’m hoping they will do crowlers too. It looks like they are canning out of Torrance and hauling the cases to Anaheim.

 

Doesn’t look like it. This past weekend was just a trial run for the staff to see how things work. Site says grand opening soon, though.

 

Plants Gotta Roll & Dial the Seven Digits are back in 4pcks today.

Probably headed that way for a pour of each. My travel bag may exceed the weight limit if I bought any more beer.

 

I forgot to mention that I had never seen more Dodger and Raider hats in Orange County than I did at Monkish this weekend!

 

TRUE!!! I noticed the same thing … although I laughed looking at the crowd because overall it had the “OC Look” … which is definitely different than Monkish LA

 

any idea when they will officially be open? hopefully before the new year!

 

Grand opening tomorrow, Saturday at noon.
They’ll be a lot Monk Heads in Anaheim tomorrow.

 

Does anyone know if they will be open today at 5pm like last week? Or just the grand opening tomorrow?

 

According to their website it says tomorrow. But maybe they will have a surprise pre grand opening today or tonight. Like one of those one off, unannounced band appearance at a local rock club or a dive bar. You never know until you take a chance and go.

 

Thats the same shit at any IPA hype brewery but it tends to be a bit more at Monkish for some reason. We've all seen what the line crowd looks lime at monkish

It will be a shit show tomorrow.
Between merch and a stout aged 40 months in apple brandy barrels, I'm sure people will be lined up tonight. Or at least try to. Not sure how cool Anaheim PD will be with that.

 

One time in high school a friend and I got lost looking for Bionic Records. We asked some dude next to us at a stop light if he knew where it was. He replied, “That’s in Anaheim. Or as I call it, Animalheim!” True story.

 

Bringing back memories of growing up in Santa Ana. Bionic and Green records were like rights of passage growing up in OC in those days

 

The last in line was served at 2:50 pm. No more line. Anaheim bottles are gone. It's still on draft though. Ba Twin Little Stars, Gift of Death, and M9 in house bottles are gone. Still a full tap list. Nice spot. Not a shit show at all.

 

I got in line at 11:35 and able to receive my cans and bottle at around 13:40. Not sure about parking as i took my time walked 2.6 miles there. Very busy the whole placed was jammed i got 3 drinks and walked another 2.6 miles back.

 

The line was fairly long from opening until about 3:30.

Decided to wait it out by going to Modern Times and Leisure Town. Strolled in and, while bottles were long sold out, got pours of the stout plus the barleywine.

Both were pricey, but pretty tasty. Although, I thought the stout was a bit too sweet and six ounces was just too much for me. The barleywine, on the other hand, gave me life. Albeit expensive life.

 

Sounds like all the grand opening offers are sold out in Anaheim. Glad I stopped in the Torrance location on way home from lax. I grabbed a 4pk LA Monks of A. Didn’t bother with the triple.
Any word on the hours for the Anaheim location? Gmaps shows them closed M-F and open on Xmas day. Maybe they’ll be open everyday by the beginning of next year? I can’t see these guys closed 4-5 days a week in a high rent district. When is Umami going to close down?
