Revolution Brewing (2021)

Those draft versions of DBVSOJ Cherry Rye were incredible and I think that keeps me coming back hopeful for each Rev adjuncted barleywine. Nothing has lived up yet, but maybe the next one will?

How the fuck did I miss this one?!

 

The only barleywine I've really enjoyed that had added ingredients was Cherry Murderous from Pipeworks. Loved that one.

Edit: and Ten Year Beer! Good call from @DeadWax. Don't know how I forgot, but yeah, maybe cherries are the only acceptable addition to barleywine.

 

The thing is, as great as that sounds, a DBVSOJ base has me way more excited

 

Is there vanilla in Vanilla Deth or is the vanilla name just used as synonym for basic? I get no vanilla from this stout. Am I missing something?

X.O. Lynott's is dreamy. Soft, creamy mouthfeel that borders on flat; big notes of cream, oak, dark chocolate and a boozy bourbon finish. Huzzah!

Kyle's Not So Quiet Quad is really interesting. Raspberry, old but well preserved book, mulled apple cider & mild booze heat notes. Probably best in small doses, but this was unique & very tasty!

 

Fist of Krampus (Fistmas aged in used Ryeway barrels with extra orange peel and ginger) was....interesting, but not great. A mix of orange soda (especially in the nose), ginger & caramel, its bold but doesn't quite mesh.

Full disclosure: I'm not the biggest Fistmas fan in the first place.

2018 Ryeway = not as good as a fresh Ryeway. Not bad, at all, but I think it's lost effectiveness over the last 3 years.

On the plus side: the put on Zoolander at my request.

I opened my first Dark Mode of the season. It's very good, I like the interplay between the smoked malt (light but certainly present) and the chocolate malt (tasty, does the trick). It's not the best they've put out, and I think one 4 pack will do it for me. Very enjoyable but not incredible.





If GI put out Dark Mode people would be losing their shit.
