This makes me feel better about pulling it as my mystery variant.

I didn’t know if it was just a branding thing or if prompted by a change in bourbon barrel brand.

That I’m not sure on, but typically they blend their regular BBA barrels. Unless they specifically call one out (like they did for some BA Behemoths), I’ve always assumed blend.

I had Hung Drawn & Quartered and thought it was better than Hellaboozie. I didn't get to BBAxDR or any of those ones. But I agree, it is just BBA DL. Hellaboozie is no adjuncts and is a bit thin, but very good flavors.

Actual conversation about Dark Lord, what is wrong with you people?

Lounge Against the MacroMachine (2019) was excellent, by the way.

On the BBDL vs Hellaboozie front, were the older versions better or is it just palate change/competition that makes it seem nowhere as good to me?

I had a 2012 BBDL that blew my mind and I had some other BBDL on tap shortly before the name change as well and loved them so much that I always said BBDL was the best variant, but I've not been anywhere near as impressed with Hung, Hellaboozie, etc. I get so much less barrel these days. I feel like HJ tastes the same as it always has though...

I can’t say, I honestly haven’t tried Hellaboozie yet. But I recently got one in a trade, so looking to crack it soon. I do agree that regular BBA was one of my favorites, so hoping I don’t feel the same way.

I opened mine earlier in the week and while I wouldn't say I loved it, I was pleasantly surprised by it. I was worried it would be a peat bomb, as most of the scotch barrel aged beers I've had so far have tended to be peat bombs. It wasn't really that at all to me.

It was dark lord with a lot of whiskey flavors up front that ended with a bit of the, for lack of a better phrasing, "scotch-y" flavors on the back end.

Tasty if a bit uninteresting compared to some of the more fun/delicious variants I've had. Not a classic but not upset with it after all.

I agree, love was a strong word to use. But overall a variant I don’t mind pulling. I’ve had 2 of the 3 scotch BA variants and I’ve enjoyed both. I think the sweetness of the base plays well with the barrels. I much prefer them to the wine variants.

Surprised to see so many posters satisfied by My Rod. Hopefully they’ll bring back the scotch variants in one form at next DLD so everyone can try My Rod.

That’s a solid DL variant I think. :sunglasses:

Not breaking any news here, but after waiting for far too long, I finally got to try Handjee last night. It absolutely lives up to the hype for me, probably the best BBA vanilla stout I've ever had. Everything is there with it and the flavors are all perfectly balanced.

It's oddly probably not my favorite DL variant (LATM is just so unique and unbelievably done) but what an exceptional beer.
