Thank you once again for the opening today @dcotom and continuing to celebrate the season.

Pulled another from the cellar, this one a heavy hitter for this time of day.

Prairie Artisan Ales Evil Twin Brewing Collaboration Bible Belt



Full treatment in this early edition of New Beer Weekend, extended for the New Years Weekend. Also listed my top new to me beers of 2021, it's been a great year of beers. In terms of this one, it's a bit oxidized at this point, being likely 3-4 years old, but held up well given the age and is enjoyable, though packing a heavier punch with each sip as I am approaching the final 6 ozs.

May come back with 1 or 2 later, but in the event I don't, I wish each and everyone of you happiness, health and the best beers in 2022!

Have a good NYE. I got to NC at 215AM. My car was done at the muffler shop around 2PM. Said all that was a problem was a crack in the mid pipe or something from salty MI weather for 4 years. So glad I didn't need a whole new part. He just charged labor for the welding job. After that I went to my moms house with my dad and I loaded up some random stuff she found from after we moved out. Julia's cat is moved in now. I picked her up at 7PM or so and we crammed the car with most of the rest of her stuff, and set off. We didn't even go out to dinner. I love my hatchback because you can fit everything, I don't need any rear view mirror for hauling . Just use the side mirrors and give plenty of space. That's why I drive at night preferably.

Steg got let out in the car when we were grabbing snacks, but then he let himself back in. He's finally home. I need to pick up Boat and Chuck later on, they are in the Petsuites. Dream life is back on track. PS boat and Chuck haven't used that bed in months but it looks like it's his favorite now.




Always an amazing beer.

Good day BAs! Thanks to @dcotom for starting us off on the last day of 2021! Here's to an enjoyable New Year!
It was a dry gray morning today - no precipitation yet anyway. Today's New Breakfast Beer is probably the worst I've had in a while:



An undated can produced by B United from a shipping container from Germany. Massively overcarbonated (It's an ungespundet brew) that tastes like the can. Rating 3.16, rDev -18.6%.

Ok, so it's the GF and my ten year anniversary this weekend. In that first year, we took a trip to the Grand Canyon and GABF (our pic in the Show Yourself thread is from Estes park that year), along the way hitting up Avery Brewing Company. We didn't buy these beers then (they are from 2014, 2016, and 2017) - but figured after ten years of dealing with each other, we should start off with some high octane shit (the exact opposite of @eppCOS)


One at a time; this is the 2016 Tweak. It has a classic BA imperial stout aroma, with a the bourbon still present (though no coffee jumps out). A bit of cherry gets thrown into the taste, and the alcohol comes through (ABV as much as if not more than the barrel stuff). Again, nary a bit of coffee; maybe I can pretend the roast in the end of the taste is coffee, if I want.

Still, it doesn't really show much oxidation, so overall not too shabby for being 5½ years old.

 

Congratulations! You two make a lovely couple. May the next ten years be as great as the last ten! Cheers!

 

My plan is to watch both NCAA semis, with the Wake Forest vs Rutgers game as appetizer, we’ll see how long I last!

Thanks! Though I'm not sure that's how aging works, but we'll definitely try. Maybe we'll get to enjoy a beer at Dominion sometime within that next ten.

I'll say the same to you, but maybe our beer can be had in the Alps.


This beer is being hadden right here in our living room as we watch some YouTubes on Bayesian statistics. A true upgrade from last night's exciting times. This is the 2014 Tweak and since the GF was slow with her first and I only had one glass in front of me, I forgot we were sharing and poured myself extra.


My relationship game is as strong as my geography skills, let me tell you.

Anyhow, this one does have some oxidation of note (I know at least one of these was not refrigerated the whole time and at least one was, and it's most likely the oldest was not). However, it is also a tad richer and more straight stout, with the barrel having less influence than the 2016. It is a tad smoother because of this, and also more coffee-ish, though I wouldn't say any roasted notes are distinctly from coffee.

 

This is another excellent NEIPA from this barely 2 year old brewery.

ps-We had a gathering a week before Xmas, and a half dozen people tested positive! We, knock on wood, dodged the bullet! So, I won’t be doing outings for a while!

Yeah, I’m in no hurry to tempt fate or, mostly, the fate of others I might run into. We’ve got ten years.


On to the last one, the 2017 Tweak, which the GF is liking better than the last:


Ok, actually I am finishing up her 2014 (so that extra pour for myself has been forgiven). A quick sip from the bottle reveals a mix between the first two. Full disclosure: these were all pulled out of the fridge together back when I had the first, so my initial notes are at a more appropriate temp. That said, the 2016 was still my least favorite versus the GF’s 2014. Not sure this 2017 tops 2014, yet.
