Zwickel is a dragon I've been chasing since they last made it back in...2016 I think? With the ripening market for top tier lagers now would be a great time to bring it back and send it out to stores this time. Especially gas station pizzerias with ATV trail access.

Ain't no deep dish in Wisconsin.

Berry Bock was probably the most polarizing brew I had all year. With "bock" and "mocha" in the name, I was surprised that it turned out to be a Raspberry Tart Lite. It was still tasty, but I didn't expect it to be a sour/lambic/whatever the fruits are considered.

same experience I had with the blueberry cocoa stout. Seemed more like a fruit beer.

Zwickle was great, Yokel was another level, absolute world class lager.

Milwaukee style or GTFO. Crispy cracker thin crust cut in squares. (Yes there are people here trying really hard to make that name for it be a thing)

That's tavern style, same as Chicago thin crust too.

I think the last few years would've been a great time for them to re-release Yokel or Zwickel and Edel Pils or Hometown Blonde. They missed the boat a bit by not capitalizing on the increase in popularity of pils. Supposedly, they were going to re-release Edel Pils for their 25th anniversary. I wonder why that didn't happen.

But it seems they continue to have no problem selling their beer, and even looked into shipping out of state though online orders: https://madison.com/wsj/entertainme...ZE_f-yyL-MKA#tracking-source=home-top-story-1

Me coming to the Midwest forum:
“Why does NG have so many posts already?”

**sees hot take and mention of gas station beer**

    “oh lord, that’s why”

Yes... and no, depending on where you go. In both regions.

I'm haven't had pizza in Milwaukee. What's the difference between it and Chicago tavern style? Any place specifically to check it out?

I'd point you to Racine's Wells Brothers.

I'm not sure what your favorite Chicago thin crust is, but to me Wells Brothers is similar to Candlelight on the north side.

OTOH -- Next Door Pub, in Lake Geneva has an equally good thin crust, but not the same as WB or Candlelight -- chewier crust, not as cracker-crisp as the first two.

Kaiser's in Gurnee is my old thin crust standby and is similar to Next Door.

My point is, not even all Chicago thin crust are identical.

Candlelight is good, but Calo Ristorante in Andersonville is my all time favorite Chicago thin crust.
This thread is about to spiral of control.

I do agree to a certain extent that many of New Glarus' year-round and seasonal beers have trended towards less flavor so-to-speak than what they were several years ago. They weren't always this way, but have become increasingly so, especially after the hillside brewery opened. For example, Fat Squirrel had a much bigger malt presence/flavor 5-10 years ago than what the most recent iteration did.

Here's another hot take: I prefer the old Spotted Cow with corn in it.

    Flame away!

Yeah, I vow to stop adding to the fire now.

But Wells Brothers has New Glarus on tap.
