And run new school Spotted Cow through a corn filled randall.

I plan to attend the next in person Dark Lord Day.

Or just listen to our podcast.

It could be good in the bottle for a year or two from now as it’s malt driven and bottle conditioned, but the low ABV would worry me. I typically don’t age anything under double digits. It’s not gonna suck, but lower ABV beers like gyrator take on oxidation more quickly than 10% beers

edit: also remember that this beer was already conditioned for 6 months and lagers for several months before that. It’s likely approaching a year since the brewday now.

Wait -- is this a for sure fact? How did I miss that?

I'm pretty sure my review bottle was clear and I didn't pour carefully.

it was mentioned in the original Facebook post back in the fall.

Edit: ya know what, I may have misread. “This strong Bock lagered for 10 weeks before resting in the bottle for another 6 months” I assumed that meant bottle conditioning, but it doesn’t say it flat out.

here’s the article that was printed before the beer was released https://madison.com/wsj/entertainme...0p2hQB6ERIXzFDNZ523csQFJg4#tncms-source=login

Sure makes you wonder -- 6 months "resting."

That’s the average time sitting on gas station floor before being sold …

    Too soon???

(I’m way less troll-y than this in real life)

Yeah, well -- just to bump your stereotype fear, I actually bought my Gyrator at a gas station.

There's a station just north of the state line in Bristol, WI that carries every NG label -- and the Gyrator was well within a month of the release date.

Prices there may not be as good as Woodman's, but it's a whole helluva lot closer for me.

Ah, the conditioning and lagering were the parts I was forgetting!

So, I actually emailed them a few weeks back to ask how they thought Gyrator might age shortish term. Have a relative coming in March, which is not super far away, so I though I’d try to set one aside. The response was that they expect it to do pretty well due to the higher abv and heavy malt. (They did not indicate the abv, fyi… and that’s NOT an opening to reawaken the 2021 thread’s hot take. )

As for this thread’s hot take: I’ve been underwhelmed by a lightish sameness the last few years, too, as alluded to elsewhere here in the not-hot takes. Dancing Man (which didn’t seem to have changed at all) and Gyrator being the recent exceptions for me. But it seems like a more recent thing. I didn’t used to think that, and it’s interesting to hear it’s not just me.

Whoa. Interesting thread. I was recently lamenting on how I felt that NG beers are not what they used to be. Thought I'd come here and see what people are saying. Glad I'm not alone. Their beers used to pretty much be a go to for me. Now they're about the last thing I'll pick up, given a choice (with a few exceptions). :frowning2:

I'll take the New Glarus lagers over Point Beer .I've crossed the cheddar curtain to purchase NG and have friends bring some back.

I do it every year with a bottle of HB Winter Spezial. Save one to drink in comparison to the next year's rendition. It holds up fairly well, but gets a little oxidized.

Just tried the Mocha Berry Bock. Disappointing. I don’t get the “mocha” and the “bock.” Taste pretty much like Raspberry Tart with more alcohol I guess? It would be nice if they listed the alcohol content. I had a buzz without expecting it.
