My crate supposedly “Left Tavour Dec 29”. After keeping an eye on it for a week on their tracking screen, it suddenly changed to “Left Tavour Jan 05”. Now my expected delivery window has been extended as late as January 17. Something similar happened last time as well. Can’t blame local carriers for this delay.
Sometimes they have some IPAs I want but having the crate open so long plus another 1-2 weeks delivery keeps me from buying them. Also no Atrial in my feed its their SPON blend instead. I passed but would be tempted to open another crate for Atrial
I look at Tavour just to see what they post. Wondering how many of these $20-50 12oz bottles that you have had are actually that good? They just put up a $37 bomber. While I’m sure these beers are very good does anyone think they are honestly worth what your paying? Just wondering what your thoughts are if you’ve had these beers. No judging at all. Enjoy
I am not a Tavour’er, but I spend too much on beer, including expensive top tier beer. So, happy to chime in. Ultimately this comes down to how much I drink and what I’d like to consume. I don’t want to drink all the time, and I’d rather drink something that satisfies me more, but drink less frequently, thank drink something that satisfies me less and drink more frequently. I think Bourbon County, Benthic and Revolution are the best bang for your buck. Period. Beyond that there will be increases in quality, but for steep additions to the cost. I am more willing to pay for Barleywines than stouts, because Barleywines are harder to come by. Here are some examples to throw out “worth it or not” pricing: Side Project: At cost, I think a lot of their offerings are very worth it. I don’t (personally) think they are worth what people trade or pay secondary for. Bourbon County Reserve beers: In general, I think the price of admission for most of these is too high and not worth it. Trying once? You got to know. Repeat offender? Nope. Anchorage: I trust my palate enough to know that I am likely not to enjoy these for the cost. $100 for 25oz is too much. I can’t do it. It isn’t “worth it” to me. I don’t get enough enjoyment out of sours to think that the prices are worth it, but if others get as much enjoyment out of sours as I do BA Barleywines, then I get it it. Side comment about whiskey: I’ve said it before, but the good bottles I worth up to around $450/bottle. It comes out to be about $16/oz. To me, for how much enjoyment I get out of that, it is WORTH it! But on that end, I’ll make a bottle last 5-10 years. I don’t get nearly as much enjoyment from shelf whiskey. There is lots of great stuff, but I’d rather drink the richer stuff and drink less frequently than drink the shelfies and drink everyday.
Sometimes they are worth it and sometimes they are not. Coincidentally, I am having a Rust Nail right now and it's magnificent. The Fremont barrel program is the best I've come across so far and worth the occasional indulgence. I do wish they'd skip the wax, use smaller bottles, and pass the savings on of course but I haven't regretted a Fremont purchase yet. There are almost as good, cheaper alternatives that I frequent, but my familie's wants and needs are met and our savings goals are achieved so I do splurge sometimes. Enjoy? I do!
Those BA Dark Star bottles hit $27.30 in California for 2022 in places they were 19.99 before. I won't be buying shit from them from here on out. That being said, 2021 and prior bottles are still 19.99 and no shortage of them on shelves so thats my saving Satans Grace
Thanks for the replies. I don’t think I could pay that much even if I could. I guess to me beer is the working man’s drink. I just always wonder what these high dollar beers are like and if the buyers felt they are getting value. Enjoy
that totally makes sense for a beer that is available locally. For someone who can't trade or has no access to these beers, an extra $7 might be totally worth it. Tavour shipping is only $14, which is a lot cheaper than most, so it might actually be cheaper than a lot of other options.
As already noted, it totally depends on the beer. Do some homework and take a look at the reviews. Don't buy blind. They put up shite that isn't great, but there are gems that sell for about the same as locals would pay. Anchorage stouts and barleywines are the same price on Tavour as they are locally. Revolution stuff is definitely fair, and something I can't buy. It really comes down to how much you want to try something and whether you have access. Trading is sometimes an option, but not always.
It's hard not to get pissy about it, but I've been buying beer at the same price since the 2000s. I am really surprised It's taken this long to change.
An almost 30% increase is almost insulting though. i don't think BarrelAged Dark Star is worth that so it doesnt bother me. I love reggie Darkstar just as much. Luckily beer trading gets me all the stuff i want ( Rev,Oddside, Triptych(sp?), Thin Man, yadda yadda. With Stone IRS coming back too I'll have a decent collection of Non BA Stouts to help me forget about the stupid prices of BA crap cuz i won't want any
Well there is the time cost of having it in barrels for months or years as well as the storage space the barrels take up. Enjoy
Have you seen how barrles are stored? Literally in a space where shit wasn't "stored" in 80% of breweries I've been to. It's not like these guys store barrels at a PublicStorage or something. Also, I'm just talkin out my ass. I love me some BA stuff
