Smuttynose Imperial Stout is the beer you desire. One of my all-time favs. Too bad Smuttynose thinks their delicious stout and highly rated Baltic Porter aren’t worthy enough to brew anymore. Not even as seasonals. RIP

Already said but...Old Rasputin and Yeti are great choices.

Storm King is a great bitter stout, as some others have already mentioned. There is still a small amount available in my area, not sure how far Victory distributed this beer. I’d say Narwhal as well, but that may be long gone by now.

Does Boulevard still do Flora Obscura? Underrated hoppy porter that ends up being like a Cascadian Black.

Bent Paddle Black Ale. (Same concept).

Many thanks — actually picked up Narwhal 2021 today. Excellent. Haven’t seen Storm King in quite some time.

For more ABVs, try Fulton's War and Peace. Or find yourself a Baltic Porter.

The candi sugars that I have brewed with were highly fermentable; they were comprised of simple sugars.

    Cheers!

I would agree but I think its relative. In general no Imperial Stout is going to taste as dry as a lower ABV Irish Stout or Export Stout. But it appears the OP is just looking for classic "non-adjunct" stouts that compared to all the sweet pastry stouts, are comparitively "dry".

One not mentioned yet that I just drank last night is Voodoo Brewing's Big Black Voodoo Daddy - dark cocoa and a bit of black licorice flavors. Not sure if their beer is distributed in NY, but maybe if @bitterbeer is in the southern tier part of the state they can get it.

    Another vote for Old Rasputin

Destihl's Privyet will fit the bill too...

Privyet is SO good. Probably exactly what the OP wants in a Stout
