I think you're confusing DLD with XV...

Had that at XV, and the glass is perfect for use with an Aeropress, too. That was my favorite drink at XV.

Lol, shouldn't we all! I spent the whole week after DLD last year swearing to my friends that I really didn't get very drunk before I finally admitted defeat after they recanted things that had happened that I had absolutely no recollection of...

I apologize, I mispoke. Definitely out of the chili, the one I wanted. One of my friends offered a a guy $100 for his newly purchased PVW right after we came out of the warehouse.

We had people offering us $150 for the vanilla bean brandy at XV. I understand someone offering to buy the beer, at an inflated price... but I just don't understand anyone selling it. I mean, I get it. But like... even at $300, that's not going to change your life... it's worth it to me to be able to open that bottle with friends and get a chance to have a beer we may never have again...

One friend suggested that I accept the purchase, and open the bottle right as I hand it to the buyer. It's in the basement, waiting for the first cold snap next fall, IMO.

I had a friend last year that had B tickets (I had C). He got a YES! scratch off and sold the ticket to the guy in line behind him for $50. I wasn't happy about that.

I'm unsure about going this year. If i do, i'll probably volunteer to pour.

Surly's Todd Haug is the guitar player for Power Mad who are performing when I asked him about DLD. I think that means Surly will be there again.

Toilet paper for Dark Lord? I accept your offer  And to prove I'm not a jerk, I'll make sure it's the fancy, double-ply kind.

I was just saying the same thing to my wife. If I get the PvW DL I will be bringing it to the Seattle BA Imperial Stout tasting in November, not a thought of selling it. Just like my tickets, I know everyone has their price, but it'd have to be a life changing offer for me to miss my first DLD.

Its nice to finally read some posts written by people who actually understand what the event is about. Being my first DLD, I was very intimidated by this whole "sharing/tasting" concept. I'm fairly new-ish to the craft scene and don't quite have the cellar amassed like someof you guys do. Good to hear that there's other ways to contribute and be welcomed into the groups. I've never had Dark Lord before but I love stouts and have known this particular beer since before I knew what 3Fs was all about. Now i'll finally be able to get some. And a couple for my meagre cellar.

Also, does anyone happen to know (insert big IF here) anyone coming down from the Anchorage, Alaska area...? I'd like to try and work out a trade for one of their local varieties.

For DLD (and any beer event for that matter) when it comes to bottle sharing/tasting just keep in mind that just because you don't have a beer whale or anything comparable, does not mean you can not have fun. Just relax and have a good time. Make sure you drink plenty of water and eat though. Also, what you may consider a "regular and/or common" beer which you can get your hands on daily, may be something a fellow patron of events has not had. So dont feel intimidated by others cellar's or coolers. Just have fun and bring what you want/ can. Your bottle(s) may be added to the bottle graveyard at some point.

In terms of other people sharing... if you see something you want to try or they are offering samples, don't be afraid to ask. If you do get a sample, make sure you show your appreciation for their kind gesture. A simple THANK YOU can go a long way at events. At the same time if you have something other people may want to try, don't be afraid to share with them.

Almost everyone is there to have fun, meet friends, and have a great time.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers, Jon

(P.S. Does anyone have an extra ticket they are willing to part with? My PC crashed during the ticket sale and I lost my two tickets in cart. :slight_frown: Just let me know if you can hook a very appreciative and generous college student out. Thanks)

yes, Davey. He is kind of a transplant. I met him in MN and gotten to be friends. He was shipped to Alaska for a couple of months and is flying in to Chicago for DLD. Hit him up, I'm sure he could take care of you.

couldnt of said it better. If you see me, and your glass is empty, all you have to say is "hey Lobo, whatcha pourin" and I will offer.
"A simple THANK YOU can go a long way at events. At the same time if you have something other people may want to try, don't be afraid to share with them." A truer statement has never been said.

This will be my first DLD as well. My brother will be coming up from Louisville on Friday and we will be driving from Chicago, Saturday morning. I was nervous at first regarding sharing/trading as like some others, my cellar is not as established as some, but I'm really looking to sharing what I've got and meeting some new folks and trying some beers I've never had.

Interesting to take a look back to the roots of all that has become Dark Lord Day. Unfortunately, the internet has no video of the first DLD (2004) but there exists some footage from 2005. Worth the three minutes to put things into perspective.

That 2005 video is crazy. It looks like a small get-together... Buncha guys just hanging out. Crazy.

Quite a few faces were regulars that hung out every Friday night. There were people that showed up specifically for the release, my group included. Look at the size of the pallet of beer Nick is standing over. That lasted into Saturday morning if I recall correctly. Crazy, huh?

The first picture here is of the group that was outside hanging out & sharing beers in advance of the doors opening. http://cubeerclub.com/html/2005_photos.html The second was more of the group that had amassed as the doors opened. Still, nothing like even 2006 ended up.
