If a business has to pay poverty level wages to keep its doors open, it's no great loss to society when that business closes.

Beer costs are going up, have been. Good.

Remember, none of these workers are getting wealthy here. It's a hard job and the simple fact is, many people determined that it just ain't worth the headache. Been a long time coming. Drinking beer at a bar comes at a cost.

    Drinking beer at home?
Also costs more. Though the price increase is more complex and there appears to be a good deal of business opportunity being taken . Beer is still a relatively cheap thrill.

    Bonus.
A lot of breweries around here have began "Industry Pricing", so if you are a vendor, service provider, consultant, worker, etc., you can get a 20% discount or so. Which is nice. I like it. And I do know with our business material costs are going up monthly. It's crazy. Some material is just not available, at all. Freight is a nightmare. Just got to deal with it.

    Cheers

Food, gas, clothes, bird seed, pot, shoes, and lap dances cost more, why shouldn't beer. Deal with it!

Raising minimum wages doesn’t necessarily increase costs of goods and services. Costs can stay low and wages can up if business owners are willing to make a little less. This doesn’t hold true for all businesses of course, but it holds true for many of the huge ones we all use regularly.

Pretty sure I've jumped on your lead on this topic before, but ya. Beer prices have been incredibly stable over the last decade and change

Big flex on the beer cost thread. I respect it. Might post a cantillon of later:stuck_out_tongue:

    That’s a pretty dismal outlook.

This is a whole other discussion but I’m sure unrelated to beers that companies like Walmart can afford to pay their employees well and they do. The mom pop stuff can not. I believe this is the importance of learning a trade and skilled labor. Anyways. I’m sure ny is just as bad. NJ is insane. Minimum wage going up to $15 and people still can not afford to live. Proper tax around here is around $2,000 every quarter year. Everything going up. I buy monster regularly and it’s gone up about 50 cents. No big deal but enough to notice. Small things like gas and groceries add up and now related to beer, it reverts back to non craft stuff like myself. Cant afford $15 4 packs

We really have no choice but to raise prices. As has been discussed in length, can prices have gone up. But also, after about 10 years of pretty stable malt prices, our malts have skyrocketed in the last couple months. Weyermann Pils went from .71 cents per lb for us to .83 cents per lb. Our Crisp malts went from .82 cents per lb to .97 cents per lb. The cheaper North American malts are a bit more expensive too, but the quality is pretty low this year to be frank. There's a lot of VERY high protein malt out there that isn't desirable thanks to farmers having to fertilize and water their barley more than usual due to droughts in the midwest. Hop prices for many of us have been locked in for years due to contracts, but future contract prices are going up. Even yeast prices have gone up across the board. Our supplier was at $45 per liter at our volume 3 years ago. Today they're at $60 per liter.

If I can get our 4-packs out at $15 retail price these days for IPA's and make a little bit of money at that price, I'm feeling really good. Lagers that we used to be able to justify $8 per 4-pack are now closer to $11.

Not as fast as the other consumer goods, based on BLS stats. From Beer Marketers Insights newsleter:

Still paying just $80 for a case of Heady Topper. $13.33 a 4-pack including taxes.

I think it's been that way for years. Even if it goes up to $15 an hour I'd still pay it.

Not saying prices of materials aren’t going up, but how can New Trail put out 19.2 oz cans of a Double IPA for $2.79?

I’m not big into economics, but something doesn’t add up.

Home brewing is still dirt cheap.
Gotta love 5 gallons of fine brew for around $20!
Plus, the added benefit of making close renditions of beers no longer available is a giant plus in my book.
I can no longer afford $60/case beers!
Anyone remember when a quarter barrel of Miller High Life was $30?
    Now it's about $60!
All within the last 20ish years!

I don’t notice a dollar or two at the store. What I do know is that I’ve been paying the same 20-24 dollars a 4 pack at my favorite breweries since I started drinking craft 3-4 years ago. Seems like that has stayed fairly consistent although I’m sure many people consider that way too much as it is. If it increases beyond that, I may look into cheaper options but as far as my store hauls, I really don’t notice a dollar or two per 4 or 6 pack although it may very well be there. Cheers.

Here in Western NC the prices in the stores are going up, anywhere from $1-$3 a six pack, but, that being said there's always deals on Local Craft, as low $10 a six.
    Bottle shops are charging more.
So far, it seems as if tap prices haven't gone up, yet.
The other day though, I bought a 12 pack of Yuengling Porter for $10 which I thought was pretty good beer and cheap.
I find it odd that Corona is being sold for over $16-18 for a 12 pack, interesting times we live in, indeed.

The most notable recently for me is that Nightmare's Scaphism which was last released in January 2020 was like $18 a 4-pack. It was recently re-released at $28 a 4-pack. Don't know if that is because it was brewed in a different location, but that's nearly a 50% price increase. Similar goes for Drawn and Quartered and Windlass of Erasmus.
