In the very near future the Pizza port Bottle shop will no longer allow you to taste the wonderful selection of over 600 of the best beers around in the quaint setting that is the bottle shop unless you want it to go. This needs to change.

How do you propose to solve this? Isn't it an issue with their license?

Get the word out and contact the ABC. I'm not sure why they are sticking their nose into this if it's been operating for many years without any problems.

They could apply for a type 47 license, no?
It allows for on and off premise sales of beer and wine. Then again they'd probably face additional sanitary type requirements with the 47 lic.

Did people actually use it for on-premise consumption? In the 30 or so times I've been to the bottle shop, I've only seen people drinking out back once. I think most people realize that there's no point standing outside drinking a bottle of beer when you can go next door and get something awesome on tap.

Plus, what is the point of that Facebook page? There is absolutely no information on it.

Can't speak to the FB page but to say there is no point in standing outside drinking a bottle (they have indoor table space as well) - how about the seating sucks at PP at the wrong time of day....there are kids all over the damn place (love kids but not when I am drinking)....they have probably 30x more selection at the bottle shop including stuff you don't see in many places around SD...it's a little easier to hear yourself think there...I think most people (not you) realize what a nice option the bottle shop is to have right next door to PP.

Sounds like a great business if they're so busy seating is limited. Being family-friendly is their bread and butter and why they're such a kick ass company. When I have kids I'll be damn happy I can go to a pizza place and also enjoy some fantastic beer and make the wife the DD.

If you don't have kids, go later.

Agree it is a great business and being family friendly is a high priority for them. Also very happy you look forward to taking your family there, I hope you do. Did I take away everything I was supposed to from your post?

The big takeaway from his post is that you should go to Pizza Port later at night, instead of going to the PP bottle shop at the time you prefer.

Go later if you don't want to be bothered by kids. I drop Fbombs around them and get the dirty stare from the parents, but hey, take your kid out of the bar area. Ain't perfect but they have a killer business plan that keeps all their locations busy. Good food and great beer...sometimes with kids running around.

Maybe if they get saved, they can make their coolers smell less mildewy.

That sucks...The best thing about livin in the village was the port and when they opened the bottle shop it was one of my favorite places to share a bottle or 2 with friends. oh well, one less reason to miss cbad.

That's a long list for me...

I think it's a great option to have, I just never saw it utilized. I also have zero desire to go there myself to drink, because it really isn't a good place to hang out, unless you're cool just standing around some cocktail tables while the employees are working in the back lot. I guess I'm the type of person who would rather share bottles at home.

Regarding your other complaints about PP, I've never had a problem finding seating there - just wait a few minutes and something will pop up. Often the tables are empty outside too. I don't have problems with the kids, but I can see how it can make some people uncomfortable. But still - with almost 40 beers on tap, and beer buddies and other great food - why stand around a boring little bottle shop? I just don't get it.

Personal preference aside, there's obviously more to the story than what's being said here. Why call the ABC when we don't even know why the license wasn't renewed in the first place?

    This.

I have a difficult time believing that Carlsbad wouldn't bend over backwards for PP if necessary, and I have a difficult time believing people within Pizza Port wouldn't have complained loudly if this were truly unfair to them. Because I love idle speculation, I'll make a few potential guesses (not necessarily mutually exclusive):

    1. There is some sort of quid pro quo related to the new facility being built in West Carlsbad.

    2. Maybe they are losing money, and are willing to let it go away. There are a lot more well stocked bottle shops now than there were back when that opened.

    3. Maybe they are considering moving the bottle shop out to the new facility?

So the bottle shop itself isn't in danger of closing? Just the ability to buy a beer and drink it there?
If that's the case, I see nothing that needs saving.
If you don't like the changes, take the bottle and go home, or go next door and buy something on tap if you want to stay for the atmosphere.
A facebook page with 51 "likes" isn't going to change the licensing laws that they have not apparently been previously following.

That does seem to be the case. I'd really like to know "why" they lost it in the first place before jumping on some bandwagon.

I'm not sure how liquor license laws work out here (you think I would after 13 years, but alas I do not), but maybe the license that allows people to drink on the bottle shop premises is being transferred to the west Carlsbad facility.
