Amazing what presentation of wax and a wooden box can escalate price. In the end those 6 beers are still worth maybe $120-$180 tops plus shipping. Keep the fancy box and wax tops I’ll just have the beer please.

Taking the above strictly, it's more common than you'd think, but it also depends on how broad you want to be with the concept of beer aging in bottles. Suarez's Poet's Walk is extreme in that the brewer kept it for years in the bottle until it was seen as "ready."

Brewers sometimes sell "vintages" of certain beers, but unlike Poet's Walk, often of beers available relatively un-aged as well... such as Sierra Nevada's Bigfoot "vertical pack." The pack on Sierra's website contains bottles aged for a decade. Even fresh Bigfoot is technically aged in the bottle for a month for conditioning (albeit that's a different goal than oxidation). By the standards of some beer shoppers here, a hoppy beer being released a month after bottling is a crime against humanity.

A nicer example of a relatively common beer being aged in glass until it's ready (but at a significantly shorter time span than the Suarez beer) is Duvel... which sits in the bottle for about 2 months before it is released (2 weeks in the warm room followed by 6 weeks at a cold temperature). While that probably isn't what you had in mind given the differences between the two beers, in some ways it's the same concept.

Lol bro I just got these in like two weeks ago. It’s an appreciation thread not a drinking thread. I plan to drink them and when I do I’ll make sure you’re the first to know. I’m not rubbing anything in anyone’s face. I’ve been chasing this set for years; why wouldn’t I want to share it in a thread where people will actually know what these are and respect the hunt. Cheers, hot shot.

Lord Humongous with cinnamon and pecan from Imperial Oak.
The name and label on this are magnificent, I can't help but smile when I see it. The cinnamon and pecans work well with the willet barrels. Thanks @FBarber !

Not the proper place for an ISO, but :astonished:

I had one barleywine aged five years (as far as I know, single barrel.) I did not finish it. Curious how a four year stacks up.

Part of my BIF33 winnings. Eighth State Severance Barleywine with coconut and hazelnut. 15.8% so probably a bit of a sipper. I actually got two of these bottles. this one came from @Mbgreg Thank you!
    Onto my review:
Sampling a cellar temp 375 ml bottle poured into my snifter The beer pours a dark chocolate color with absolutely no head foaming up even after an aggressive pour. At 15.8% , the lack of head isnt terribly surprising.
I really like hazelnut as an additive so have high hopes for this beer.
The aroma is toffee and caramel with some dark chocolate a good bit of fusol booze and some mild coconut. The sweet hazelnut is buried behind the booziness but I find it with some deep sniffs, which also reveal a little vanilla.
First sip reveals a sticky textured medium to thick body with very fine and slightly tingly carbonation. The carbonation is sort of spacious, but still is present on the palate. I get some warming booze immediately and on the swallow too. Yup, this is a sipper!
The flavor is complex and deep with heavy malt notes of toffee, brown sugar and fig mixing with some hazelnut and dark chocolate. Leaves a sweet sticky coating on my lips that is like dark fruit dipped in melted brown sugar. I dont find the coconut on this flavor profile and there isnt really any hop balance either. The warmth kicks up on each sip and the sweetness on the front end covers it briefly.
This is a complex malt forward beer that I will be sipping through the rest of this evening. Very glad to have tried this one, quite a nice barleywine!

Tree House Tree of Life Coffee Barleywine

Pours a lovely red plum-hued dark brown color with two fingers of audibly-fizzy khaki-colored head that actually stick around for a couple of minutes before settling into a wisp and thick crown that leave messy lacing.

The nose is all about the coffee — big and dry smelling with some roastiness and chocolate undertones. It’s not quite stale smelling, but it’s not particularly enticing.

The lackluster dryness of the coffee from the nose works much, much better against the sweet flavors in the taste. There’s brown sugar, caramel, vanilla, chocolate and some fruity plum, pear and apple juice that linger in the aftertaste.

Exceptionally smooth, thick and chewy mouthfeel. Tight carbonation.

The small number of coffee barleywines I’ve had have been delicious, and this is no exception. It leaves me excited to try the vanilla version.

Are there other “fresh” coffee barleywines available out there these days?

Forgotten Brilliance from Pure Project. This is a citrusy hop bomb that has nice nuttiness and dark fruit elements. Unique and damn good. Tree of Life is great, but I want something akin to this from a Tree House barleywine some day.
