I keep moving around, not succumbing to lassitude completely. I still am in a decent weight category relative to my age group. I'm just a bit heavier than I was 40 years ago, but not nearly as quick......

My problem is that I tend to remember everything and that I'm likely to tell people what's on my mind.

Less, not because I'm retired, but because I'm older. Too much beer at one time affects my sleep. Where I used to knock back 6 or 7 beers in an evening, now 3 or 4 beers are sufficient.

Well. Prior to retiring I tried to think of a hobby that I enjoyed that would work in retirement. Beer drinking came to mind, with virtually unlimited prospects of variety and locations. Now I drink one to three brews a day, one of which is usually posted on WBAYDN, while the rest (if any) never appear on socialist media. No more binge-drinking-forget-about-work/hanging-with-nurses/interns/residents-getting-thrown-out-of-bars shit. Now it's just an early morning after the Y single beer and maybe a beer/mixed drink/glass of wine in the evening kind of day.

I retired early at 64 and now 72. My drinking I think went up some when I first retired but now is much less. I do most of the cooking now at home and have 1 or 2 beers a day preparing dinner for me and my wife who still works from home. Going out to pubs I'll have 2 beers and something to eat over a 2 to 3 hour period. I find that I eat more being retired, I like to eat as much as drink now a days.

I'm still about 15 years away from retirement but I can say that due to some recent horrible triglyceride results (611!!!!...ugh)...lifestyle changes are in order...I realized most of my calories come from alcohol which can't be a good thing... That being said, I think I can answer less.. I'm not going to cut it out completely but I won't mow through them anymore

I here ya! I love carbs . . . beer, pasta, bread . . . you name it. Metabolism just can't handle it anymore so I had to cut back by increasing protein and fat. Lost 20 lbs in the process! Need more though. :grimacing:

Drinking more since my full retirement.
Initially when i retired in May 2018 stuck with one beer per day during the week and 2-3 on the weekend. Consulted for 2-3 years after retiring from the State of Arizona and retired fully in fall 2021. Now am enjoying 1-3 beers per day most days with an occasional day off of drinking (mostly on Poker night LOL!).
I am 59 and make it a point to get in at least an hour a day of physical activity, mostly at the gym first thing in the morning M-F and some hiking on the weekend. Take care of Da Boss, who is still remote working full time, as Chief Bottle Washer, Head Chef, and Head Housekeeper so daytime sobriety is necessary. I am 6'2" and weigh 165-170, not much above my high school hoops wing forward weight of 160 back around 1980. My January 2022 blood panel shows i am still able to handle the current imbibe. Also, i live in a retirement community with a decent amount of social drinking around activities so there is occasional wine and cocktails thrown into the mix while playing pool, poker, or general social events.
I have always had an intuition to slow it down or stop when the time is right so i expect to follow the advice when the intuition/medical world tells me too.
    Cheers!
    Tom

I'm 62 and have a little over 3 years to go before retiring. As a transition, I've made it a point not to drink Monday through Thursday (occasionally I'll have a beer or two on Thursday but not regularly). As a result I sleep a lot better, which is good since I'm still stressed. I tend to drink about 12 beers over the weekend. I keep track. My goal is to average less than 2 beers per day per week. When I actually stop working, I'll try to do the same. If I can average a little under 2 per day per week I'll be doing well.

These times are trying. Some days are easier to navigate, but a beer here and there always makes for an easier cruise. I am not a collater by nature and I collect myself when I need to slow down and put on the brakes...

Going into my 4th year of retirement, and I'd like to think my drinking is relatively the same... at least that's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

I was 70 when THEY called it quits, my job was eliminated and retitled so the shareholders could make more money.(I held shares). COVID struck a week later. I drank a ton the first year and gained 40 lbs. When I went for my annual physical my Doc said, "get your shit together or die, your choice." I went from 230 to 280.
I'm down to 225 now, but it varies. I ride a bike, walk or use an elliptical everyday. Junk food is a thing of the past for me. I dont think I've reduced my beer consumption by much, but I work to keep it under control.
    Beer is food!

You definitely do not look like you retired when I was only 12 years old. Beer must be the fountain of youth.

I guess you can say I semi-retired in the workforce right around the time I joined beeradvocate in 2007. My son was diagnosed on the spectrum and I quit my job to become his primary caretaker. I currently drive him back in forth to private school. It’s a 40 minute commute both ways. If he took the bus it would take over an hour. Can you imagine?

i currently homeschool my youngest and I recently start working part-time in sales and as a sub contractor for a flooring company.

Even though I am home most of the day and have every opportunity to have a beer, I made two rules for myself. I only drink beer during the daylight hours on weekends and not until I’m home from my afternoon commute. I’m not sure if I will ever be fully retired. Taking care of my son will be a life long job and I love every minute of it. His favorite band is Bob Marley!

I forgot to mention I am 57 yr. old. My better half is a lot younger than me. Keeps me young. I take a daily walk and try to stay fit so I can keep my beer gut in check. When I am finally able to fully retire, I don’t want her trading me in for some young stud.

I can't respond as I won't be retiring for another two years. However, I don't anticipate my drinking to change. Once I started having kids about 30 years ago, I went from quantity to quality in my beer drinking (used to drink wine, but not much now). Additionally, I have always been fit and active. At most, I drink three times a week and keep to 2 beers per day. Only time I drink more is when I go out to a brewery (once a month on average) and I will have 3 beers. Only time I got really drunk was to at the occasional beer festival (once a year), but I was already considering to stop attending and COVID pushed that decision forward.

My only problem is that one of my son's is into craft beers. We will be visiting him and his girlfriend the first weekend of April in Denver. I suspect my quantity limits will be stretched.:stuck_out_tongue:
