Certainly the 3F beers at SP yesterday were about the celebration of life and his life specifically, and not the particular beers poured. Still, inquiring minds want to know what the dusties were (and age). Did anyone go and have anything to report?

Thanks. I forget that people put in their location on Untappd. I don't untap much, but if I do I don't think I ever put in the location. Feels like a lot of work when it's unnecessary to the goal of simply keeping track of a tic/rating.

 

It's actually just 1 click, a few rows below the rating section, particularly when your phone typically knows where you are, and the closest suggestions are front and center.

It's only three clicks after the rating for those of us that check-in beers choosing the serving style, tagging someone we're with, and selecting a location. Takes 3 seconds. Boom, done.

 

Fair enough. I guess as someone that couldn't care, I'm not quite sure why most people do it. Maybe to keep track if you do a bunch of shares, and you wanted to be able to look up if it you had this at Don's house vs. at a brewery and so on? It's a curious thing to me.

 

also, you can just search the cellar as a venue and check out check-ins from there (assuming folks tag the location they’re at)

 

oh, it gets obnoxious fast. people make up their own venue names even though it’s just their house or a buddy’s house. i mean i’m all for fun but if you’re going to do that do it in a humble, or even self deprecating, way. don’t put “Max’s Mansion of Whales” or some shit like that. own it and put “Sam’s Shithole Apartment”. everything with social media has to be so glamorous when you know if you’ve been to a share there’s nothing glamorous about a bunch of overweight nerds drinking beers.

 

How about "Mom's Basement" or "Tavour's Retirement Plan"?

This is what I did.

 

I think what's more obnoxious than the naming is where people take photos. I'm all for having a staging area. I think pretty pictures are, well, pretty. I love using my very small bar-countertop, which I have lined with almost exclusively old BCBS bottles (really the only thing I keep). It's a nice back drop. But when you start putting your bottles conspicuously in front of your Pappy and BTAC bottles (especially if they are unopened), it gets beyond obnoxious. A fellow BA sent me photos from FB where someone was staging photos with a strat and a hand gun.

These people need to go away.

 

I use the playground in my neighborhood as my venue. Crushing whales on the merry go round.
