Glad the weather cooperated with you today!

I'll be waiting for further dispatches.

I'm more glad the 'limited cans to go' cooperated with me at Goldfinger. So far today it's been the CW Barleywine Bonanza, then Goldfinger Dark Lager Day, after lunch onto Beer and Now for some (hopefully) Art History cans, then Roaring Table and a stop at a Binny's in case I missed anything I was after. But I have a feeling that's not happening today...

It's funny, but your trip sounds like beer hunts I used to make thru southeast Wisconsin about 20 years ago.

It's been a couple years since I did A Thing like this. With having a kid plus the pandemic. Been a fun day so far.

God damn is that why it was busy today? I went to have a couple brews and it was slammed. Walked right out. I’ll try again next weekend.

Excellent experience for my first Goldfinger visit. Crowded when I got there but a friend & I snagged some seats, and the service was top notch. I found it interesting that the crowd was almost 50/50 male/female, which is not the usual breakdown at beer releases / fests.

As for the dark lagers themselves, all 3 were very tasty. However, I'd rank them Black Lager > Czech Dark Lager > Doppelbock.

Lastly, pretty sure I met the matriarch of Sugar Creek Malt Co...she was wearing a righteous Edel-weiss sweatshirt and talked about hand-picking this grain for the last two years. She was a character!

Looks like cans are starting to pop up. Was able to grab the dark and Czech dark at Open Bottle Lockport.

I look forward to checking this place out the next time I convince the wife to take a run into IL for some biers! Any recommendations for can't miss breweries/food stops in the immediate vicinity so we can try to hit a couple while down?

Check out @Number1Framer 's reports on his excursion thru Northeast Ill in the Chicagoland Lagers thread (here in the Midwest Forum).

BTW -- Framer, where did you dine that day?

For lunch we hit some little Mexican hole in the wall on the main drag right to the west of Goldfinger. Didn't spend much time looking at local food options in that area as we wanted to keep moving. If I had more time I would've gone and hit up Art History.

FYI the drive up to Lake Zurich from the Goldfinger area was much easier than getting there from I94. I don't head that way much so don't know the lay of the land very well but it was a much more relaxing cruise up to LZ which led us right to Roaring Table for even more premium quality lagers. Place was super mellow and the drive back up to WI from there is pretty low key. Great place to end the day. If you have a whole entire day to burn maybe hit up Dovetail on the way down and really try to get in all the lager food groups.

Think I talked it up enough to get the wife on board. Have to figure out when (hopefully early April) but going to make a run and hit Goldfinger, Roaring Table and Consume.

I thoroughly enjoyed their Polish Pils last year, so I am very excited for this series.

Bavarian Lodge in Lisle is a great option. German food & beer with a great taplist.

Check their hours though, if you are coming on a weekday they often are not open for lunch, only dinner.

Also, More Brewing in Villa Park has good food. They are more known for stouts & hazies, but do have a couple lagers on usually.

Just hopping on to say that I LOVED both the Czech Dark Lager and the Zlotonator Doppelbock. For a 7.5 ABV beer, the Doppel goes down way too easily!

They'll be releasing their Bohemian-style Pilsner in April, which will also be canned and distributed. This last bit is the most important part, right? Looking forward to trying this one.
