I am heading for Chicago from Dallas and I am looking for some suggestions on what is available in the area. Not necessarily rare stuff but what is some good stuff to look for on shelves?

GI Big John is out right now. Great stuff. You may find some Bourbon county but its pretty well gone. Second the pipeworks comment... they are coming up nicely. Pick your style. Central waters BB Stout should be out here in a few days. Boulevard Rye-on-rye still on the shelves if you dont get that down there...

Just off the shelf I would grab some Bells stouts, look at the descriptions and pick your fav style. expedition, tres,.. Blackout stout from Great Lakes is around right now. New Holland Dragons milk is a good off the shelf barrel stout. Most all the Three Floyds stuff is great -- Alpha Claus out now or grab a bomber of dreadnaught or artic panzer.

If you are around downtown check with Half Acre and revolution on their special releases. Straight Jacket available now and Big Hugs... it just depends on your timing.

Just make sure you bring BIG suitcases and throw in a bunch of bubble wrap and bring us up a few bottles of that Rahr BB Winter warmer!

I already had Revolution and Half Acre in my sights. I am planning on making the trip to Three floyds so I have that covered too.

Thanks for the Pipeworks tip I don't think I have had anything from them before.

I can already see the large amount of money that will be leaving my wallet on this trip. I have a feeling I am going to have to wear a few more layers on the plane to make room in my suitcase.

Revolution has two locations. the brewpub in logan square and the tap room/brewery that's fairly close. if you already ate, i recommend the tap room. it's pretty nice, friendly environment and you can see what the facility looks like.
    don't leave chicago without pipeworks.

Thank goodness, I moved to Ohio recently, and I want to pick up some this weekend while back home in Chicago, before returning to beers over 12% aren't cool Ohio.

the taproom also sells bombers and cans to go for less money than they typically are on shelves. if they still have the straight jacket BA barleywine i highly recommend that.

The South Loop was running really low as of Friday night. Stopped in to get my dad an engraved bottle of Blue Label for Christmas.

you have to wonder why beermenus doesn't implement a simple filter to select only bars or only beer stores.

So I repeat..... BCBS pretty well gone....

    Grand -- none
    Lincoln Park -- gone
south loop -- 2 4 packs left and thats it.

If you get into town and get completely shut out BM me and we'll get you a 4 pack at least.

Theres actually more coffee around than regular. Linc Park, Warehouse liq both have coffee right now.

Thanks for the offer. I found some BCBS down by my dads in Joliet, also grabbed a big johns and nightstalker. Going on the pipeworks hunt tomorrow. Planning on hitting up half acre and revolution tomorrow. Does pipeworks have a taproom? I saw a post from a while ago saying they were working on one but I can't get on their website on the iPad. Damn flash!!

no taproom for pipeworks yet. but most binny's in the city have their stuff.

rev- if you're hungry go to the brewpub. if not, go to the taproom. fun.

eh, I'll look around, but no big deal, still got at least 12 of them, and I've very easily gotten a few Bourbon county coffees since I've been back, so if nothing else, that is a lot more money I can spend on other stuff.
