For Belgian strong dark, I'd suggest many of the Unibroue beers. They have a wide range of awesome ones. Maudite, (if you count it as such) La Terrible, Trois Pistoles, and their latest Anniversery beers are all incredible. They make awesome lighter styles too, like La fin Du Monde and Don de Dieu .

I've had pretty boozy examples recently as well. I find that last year's batches were much more subtle with the alcohol. They might be having problems with their yeast, or having batch to batch variation. Either way, I think it's a great quad, and worthy of anyone who likes the style.

I finished my last of the four pack last night, and after drinking three of these, my opinion became more well-rounded. The booziness is pretty in-your-face. I like booze, so it isn't repulsive, but the beer could be a lot more balanced.

Exactly, i enjoyed it and didn't mind drinking it. It's just that the booze is in your face the entire time.

Ricelikesbeer, i was actually going to suggest Unibroue, but (correct me if i'm wrong) none are designated as a "Quad" so i wasn't sure about posting them here. But i agree, every Unibroue is awesome IMO.

I'm gonna recommend the gift packs that are out there right now. I've seen st bernardus, chimay, and la trappe packs with bottles and a glass. Typically a great price point and a nice glass to have. The la trappe one was very well priced and I picked it up the other day (18.99, 4 bottles and the glass).

Pannepot/Pannepeut/Pannepot Reserva...Straffe Hendrik's is pretty solid too, and the oak-aged version can be yours for a mere $27.00.

So question Belgians like Rochfort 10 and St. Bernardus 12 do they age well... Belgians not typically my thing but I am interested in doing a "fresh" vs aged comparison....I just don't want to ruin a beer by aging it.

I'm sure it's been said, but I'll throw my vote into the ring: Rochefort 10. One of the best Quads I've ever had.

Luckily you can pick up little 12oz's for fairly cheap so if it does ruin it, it's not that big of lose.

If i remember right i think the label on st b 12 had a drink by date of 2017, but i'm not home right now so i cant confirm.

For Quads, you HAVE to try Gulden Draak.

This morning I picked up a 750 ml Chimay Red at Trader Joe's in Berkeley, CA for $8.99. They had Blue for $9.99. Not sure if that is a nation wide deal f T Joe, or just local. I could not pass it up....
