I am spending way more on beer this last year. There are a few reasons for that, I believe one of them is that this is how my midlife crisis is manifesting itself. Sports cars? Extreme sports? Buxom lasses? These don't tempt me at all. Overpriced barley wine with waxed caps? Is this all you have or are there more in the back?

After reading many of your posts I have zero doubt that you don't know what is being discussed here.

I just gotta ask: have you ever kept track of how much you pay for beer (and beer trips) over a year? If so, would you be willing to share how many 10's of thousands it is?

    Cheers!

What's wrong with a lil sweet corn? I've migrated to the Narraganset since it hit Ohio when I need that old man beer fix. Loathe BMC but love the regional old man beers that are all basically cousins of the blue ribbon devil.

No budget for me. I don't drink that much anymore, so when I buy beer I get whatever I want.

Since Da Boss is still working so i am still budget free, more like space constrained if anything with too many brews purchased of late. HOWEVER, when she retires in the near future, i can see less of a splurge on high-end beers. Being really close to Sierra Nevada Mills River makes picking up a 12-pack budget friendly as does having access to Yuengling for a session brew; tough to beat at $18 a case for a decent brew.
    Cheers!

This thread appears to have evolved into an AAL beer 'debate'.

    Time to make some

And the Happy Hour 'horn' just blew:

Sorry, I was being a bit of a smart ass. I spend about $24 a week on beer, give or take. That would include a stop a local breweries. So far I have not had to cut back or increase my budget, but I would if I really need to.

What's up with barreled aged stouts and barleywines costing as much as 12-15 year aged scotch? I am looking at you HF with a 60 dollar 375 ml bottle of double barrel Aaron?

I have my doubts within the context of craft/BA beer consumers.

I have read many accounts where craft brewers enjoy drinking macro beer. One example:

Shaun Hill of Hill Farmstead is quoted: “I actually find myself drinking Miller High Life or Budweiser because those beers are perfectly crafted.”

I enjoy drinking some AAL brands from time to time: Yuengling Lord Chesterfield, Hamms, Reading Premium,...but my purchases are confined to a six-pack (and an occasional purchase).

    Cheers!

Maybe just drink like Shaun Hill instead (see quote above)?

All of the truly regional breweries in my area are now nano breweries -- making great beer, but edging up in price.

What I wouldn't give for a case of 80s Schell's Deer Brand or Dubuque Star.

Just JK’ing ,However I’ve seen more post, pictures and positive thoughts of Hamm’s in the last year than in the last 15 years combined. Also Hamm’s is always in my fridge rotation.

I had to vote no at the moment, try to keep spending a bit in check regardless. Do want to try new beers tough, waiting for some more from Holland, including a nice little shipping cost. But what do you do? Cut down the spending on other things, of course!

Hamms was a regular when I lived in MN, now it is Jack's Abby House Lager. The price point almost makes up for the occasional expensive beer splurge. Do they still make Lord Chesterfield? I remember liking that years ago.

TBH I usually buy beer without checking the price or date, so no budget and no inflation impact. My wife, who doesn't drink beer or much alcohol at all, sometimes tags along when I go beer shopping, even helps me find and carry brews, and hasn't commented about cost ever since I offered to take up hunting, fishing, or golf instead.
