One Tributary Leads to Another… that was the aha! moment when Tod Mott and his wife, Galen came upon the name of their new brewery. Tributary Brewing Company is Tod’s long-held dream of brewing his own beer and having his own place to serve it. Tod has been a master brewer for over two decades, working with some of the region’s most renowned breweries. Most fans know him as New England’s brewing legend, the creator of the original recipe of the highly acclaimed Harpoon IPA, and Portsmouth Brewery’s cult-status, Kate the Great Russian Imperial Stout.

    ***

We find the inspiration for Tributary beer in the landscape of Southern Maine, with its winding brooks, salt water marshes, and tidal rivers converging into the mighty Piscataqua River. Tod and Galen are passionate environmentalists and understand the critical importance of good, clean water.

Water is the most vital component in the brewing process; Tributary is our metaphor for the delicate brewing process. Tod’s skill, ingenuity, and creativity, combined with our mission to preserve this way of life, results in small batches of Tod’s favorite recipes for traditional, well-balanced, full-bodied beers — many of them! Tributary’s home is the coastal town of Kittery, Maine. We use only the finest malt and hops in our brews for beer lovers locally and beyond.

I started this thread solely so I can post about the Spring 2022 Mott the Lesser release. I haven't been since Fall 2019 (though I have had all the bottles since then), but I plan on heading up on the 23rd.

Save the Date – Spring Mott the Lesser Release!

Tributary Brewing Company is pleased to announce that it will have an event April 23 to release Spring 2022 Mott the Lesser.

Customers will be able to purchase bottles, limited to 2 per person, directly and enjoy up to 2 pours per person the day of the event.

The event will be under the tent and mostly outdoors, so please dress appropriately. Hours of operation for the day of the event are 12:00 Noon – 7:00 PM. Dogs will not be permitted that day. Our regular hours of operation will resume Sunday, April 24th 12:00 Noon – 5:00 PM. More details about food etc. will be forthcoming in the coming weeks. Bottles will not be sold online, and it will be first come first serve. You must be present to purchase bottles.

Our Spring blend will include our favorite Port and Madeira barrels, and are accompanied by Añejo Tequila and Jamaican Rum. Individually samples aged in the barrels are tasting exquisite. The blend has not taken place as of this writing so stay tuned for more information.

Nice place! Was there for the first time last fall. Really like their can selection. I recommended it to my cousin and her husband when they visited Maine last October for the first time. They stopped by but didn’t stay. They were complaining about it being busy because of the “release of some 10.5 % stout.” Haha

I'm curious to see the return of "The Line" after a couple years of online ease. Are people bursting at the seams to get back to these kinds of crowds, or has the Mott novelty waned?

The Line, you say. I assume this means I should get there pretty early if I go?

Hard to say, which is why I'm so curious. People used to line up very early and it was a madhouse at open, but in the last couple releases before Covid I remember heading up mid afternoon after the initial rush and getting in and out with bottles. Pretty sure I went on Sunday one year, as well.

There seems to always be a line at opening day, but from what I remember prior to Covid, almost every release lasted into the next day. Draft typically lasts the week. I wouldn’t rush there.

I've wondered the same thing. The last release pre-Covid (so Fall 2019), I went up on Sunday to grab two bottle and have a pint.

My plan is decisively to NOT go there at 10 am and wait in a line. I very much plan to leisurely head up some time in the early afternoon.

It's also Saison Day. Celebrate accordingly.

I enjoy hanging out and waiting for opening - but this time it's not an option. I have to work Saturday, but I think that I'll be heading up when I get out, so I'll probably arrive around 5PM. Time enough for a pour, get the bottles and get dinner somewhere. Thinking about Anju Noodle Bar, or heading to Portsmouth. That'll be a bit up in the air until then. we'll probably think it over while at the brewery.

Beer Sessions Radio did an hour-long podcast with Woody this week (Tributary posted about it on their Instagram, which is how I found out about it). I've listened to about half of it. I consume far less beer media (podcasts, articles, etc.) than I probably should, but I'm finding this one interesting.

So it's T-minus 14.5 hours till opening at Tributary tomorrow. Anyone else going? |As I posted above, I'll probably be there around 5PM. I'm 95% sure |I won't have to worry about not getting bottles - even before times they'd often last till Sunday.
Still up in the air as to dinner afterwards - |I'll have the family with, so we're maybe looking for somewhere with mac & cheese for the small dude. |I'm still trying to hold out for Anju, though.

I’m going to head up some time today. I don’t want to go alone, but I also don’t really want to bring my family of five. It’s a beer release of a stout. Just seems selfish of me. I’d love a pour, but it might be a grab and go if the fam comes for the ride.

Wasn't sure if I would make it or not, but here I am standing in line with my plate of oysters!

I left about a half hour ago. Good times! MtL and a Pilsner. No food, sadly. That BBQ truck smelled great and the oysters were looking fine.

So Mott the Lesser is coming up this weekend. I'll be heading up with a friend of mine. Looking forward to it. Sounds like they've sort of tweaked things around - bottle only sales will be outside, with pours inside. Also limits appear to be up to 4 per person rather than the usual 2 it's been since they've opened, and for Kate before that (not counting the lottery tickets that last year or two of that.)
This spring I went up late that day, I did get my bottles plus a pour - had the kiddo and Mrs Jrgtr along so I couldn't hang out as long as I usually would have. I did like the order and pick up later thing they did during Covid. |Didn't have the push to get there that one day.

Yeah, I feel the same way. It’s Halloween in my town, sports in the morning/early afternoon. Even though Kittery is ~30 mins, it turns into a couple hours round trip at least.

Any word on what the barrels were? I didn’t see them post it.

I don’t think bottles sell out right away anymore so usually you can get there a different day.

I’m surprised they won’t have the pours outside and inside as they just did for Oktoberfest. Will have to swing by Sunday to try it.
