Big Barleywine from Zaftig Brewing in Columbus, OH has been very pleasant this evening.

Whoa...so impressed with this one from Moksa Brewing in Northern California! Double barrel aged...15 months in Heaven Hill barrels and 15 months in Elijah Craig barrels! Great balance between the caramel/toffee notes, dark fruits, and the barrels...Wow! :fire::fire::fire:

Thursday night means barleywine time! This is Barreled Souls base Blonde on Blonde barleywine. picked this up at the brewery in October 2021 where it had been held in cold storage for me since bottling. Glad to share another big boozer with this thread!

    Onto my review:

Im sampling a 500 ml bottle of this brew from a 6/23/2020 vintage and pouring it at cellar temperature into my trusty snifter. My bottle is 130 / 540 and is marked at 13.3% ABV.
The beer pours a clear gold to copper color with a creamy bleached white head foaming up and sticking around as a strong surface covering throughout the sampling.
The aroma is an interesting mix of light toffee and white grape with hints of alcohol and maybe some apricot. Nose is interesting and fine.
First sip reveals a medium body with silky smooth texture and gentle soft rolling carbonation that is very fine in size. Beer drinks very easy on the physical traits.
Flavor is some toffee and a bit of bready malt which moves to white grape peach and apricot notes. Finish is a bit of black pepper and warming booze that lingers after the swallow.
I like this barleywine just fine, but definitely liked the barrel aged version that I had last year more.

I'll be spending some time near Barreled Souls in August, hope they something barrel aged available when I stop by.

I have Arcane Rituals sitting in my fridge now. It appears I really need to give it a try. I've been debating if I want to do a side-by-side with a cuvee that uses Arcane Rituals, hence why the barleywine has lasted so long in my fridge.

Of my LA work trip, I was most pleased with the density of barleywines in that area.

Wow, that would be strong liter of beer! I do back to back nights with situations like that.

And yes @Beersnake1 and @lucius10 have an enviable barleywine situation. I'm glad some liquor stores out there ship to PA at least. As a school bus driver I don't see a work trip to LA in my future lol.

The bottles often move fast when they are released.
They often have a lot of good cans floating around.
Watch their social media a few weeks before you go will give you a sense of whats available.

I definitely am lucky with the selection. We just had this release a few days ago. Not BA, but a really fantastic beer.

I appreciate the offer! Due to the addictive nature of trading, I quit a long time ago. I did get some intrepid orchid before I quit Tavour because of it's addictive nature, looking forward to it!

Has anyone had the "Trip in the Woods"? It's the multi aged blend of barrel aged bigfoot. Came out in 2019 I think. I have a bottle that I've been sitting on, just curious if it's worth aging for longer

I've had a few and I love it. It's Bigfoot so I don't think you need to hurry. I think I'll open my last bottle next winter. I'd love to see them can this one.

What I'm reading here is that you can drive the bus to LA and need a few extra drivers. Just holler and I'll take off work. We'll have to paint the bus like the Partridge Family, but you already knew that.

I kind of like the idea of solving mysteries while under the influence of barley wine.

Is that like a vision quest type thing?
And would the reward for solving the mystery be more barleywine?

Best road trip ever is what im thinking
