I run 3-4 miles 3-4 times a week and eat decently during the week, less so on the weekends. I’m in good health and would be called thin or normal size by most people, although I could certainly stand to drop 10-20 pounds and could without a ton of effort.

That said, life is way too fucking short for me to count calories when I go out to eat or am on vacation. No way I’m not getting that fourth beer or extra Buffalo wing or whatever if I’m out on the town.

    I can attest to @rightcoast7 ’s overall svelteness (if that’s a word)

Personally speaking yeah I definitely indulge, definitely don’t overthink calories either, and when visiting a city run + walking + whatever gets burned just by being a functioning human being = overall things kept pretty much in check for a long weekend / week vacation. If I was doing that week in week out for an extended period I’d probably add a few lbs. But if I was doing that my liver would probably fail before I had to worry about chubby cheeks or upsizing my shorts/pants.

    @Jbrews all well said.

Coincidental that your avatar is Sweatshirt. Him and I actually found out we first crossed paths in an old nutrition/exercise forum back in the early 2000s. The guy who ran that forum is one of the most brilliant minds in the field.

You sure you’re not the real Sweatshirt?

I don’t feel any of this is off-topic by the way. Portland is a major beer and food city. And let’s be honest, none of us are dieting while we’re there.

haha I wish I could be him. My past forum bud/funny story would’ve been chatting with Adam22 on the b9 forum and later seeing him around HC shows and stuff. Obviously now blowing up with No Jumper. To us, it was just a screen name 15+ years ago

Wait until you're 60 and have 5-6 daily runs to the bathroom.

My wife and I are doing a 7 day trip to Boston (4.5 days) and Portland (2.5) days for our 15 year anniversary the first of July and I’m pumped to have stumbled across this thread!

I’ve read thru and noted all suggestions so far and will continue to monitor leading up to July.

Thanks to all who have contributed!

Thanks for starting this. I'm headed up to Portland/Bar Harbor in a couple of weeks and was thinking about this. Fortunately, I did a search before starting a new thread!

Heading up to Portland in a month (three nights) and have pretty much everything planned except for a couple things...

Need a place to get lunch Saturday (either take out, pre-made sandwhiches etc) that can be eaten on a boat. Fogg's Charter around the bay with a group of friends that afternoon so ideally a place located near that area. Also, looking for a restaurant that can accommodate a group of ten for dinner that evening.

    Thank you!

Ramona's is a mile walk from there and has killer Italian subs to-go.

Doesn't hurt Oxbow is across the street too. They also have their Duckfat window...and ya know, awesome beers.

Anthony's Italian Kitchen is a few blocks away. Family owned old school Italian restaurant. Lots of subs, wraps, salads, etc. to go.

Doing the same in June. Let me know if you have any Bar Harbor suggestions - will be my first time!
I've done the Portland trip numerous times, but so many places still to hit!

Sure--I'll be sure to report back on what good food/drinks I find in both Portland and Bar Harbor.

Anthony's Italian kitchen shows a section on their menu "Syrian Roll-Ups"....any chance they are the similar to the ones at Market St Eats?

Off topic (well, mostly), but I'm heading to the OTHER Portland in about a week. Started sifting through the Portland, OR thread, but would appreciate any tips for food and beer from you all as well. We all seem to be on the same page regarding beer and food.

I don't want to submarine this thread, so please PM me if you have suggestions.

    Thanks!

I'll pay you back ten fold with suggestions for Portland, ME.

    Funny story on this:
After a long day/evening in Portland, ME, we were hungry for pizza.
My buddy looked on his phone and ordered Sizzle Pie in Portland.
When they called to get better directions to the hotel, he realized they were in Portland, OR.
The bartender had a good laugh at his expense.
I think we ended up buying him a Sizzle Pie t-shirt and had it shipped from OR.

Smuttynose is opening a beer garden at Rock Row in Westbrook. I'm not sure why a local brewery didn't get involved. And how can a brewery like Smuttynose, who can't keep Dover open year round, open this concept? For those heading to industrial way, this will be close by but its Smuttynose and not early 2000's.

Any tips on getting in to Crispygai besides borrowing @AlcahueteJ's lucky horseshoe? Headed to Portland next weekend (20-22). Trying to plan it out and might have to do takeout to "secure the bag." So far have Terlingua, Hunt & Alpine, and Scales booked. Shit, it's my birthday next week.
