Hammond? Are these guys brewing out of 18th St?

I don't have that impression, but their website is not very informative.

EDIT: That map on the website seems to indicate they are in the old Sour Note building.

    Pastry stouts and milkshake IPAs.

Thanks. Wasn't sure if it meant pastry stouts or pastry sours. Honestly, hadn't even thought of milkshake IPAs. Whoops.

I think there is a broad category of beers that lead to Type II Diabetes, and are not exactly traditional styles.

1- Is Sour Note no longer around?
2- Wasn’t Sour Note part of 18th St?

    1. Sour note has been closed since the beginning of the pandemic. As I understand it, the brewer(s) left.
    2. Yes. Same ownership, different building.

I wasn't aware this was open, but fb says they opened on March 4th for carry-out only. I tried Alligator Blood pre-pandemic when they sold cans out of Windmill. That beer was good and I'm intrigued by barrel fermented hazies (without lactose or vanilla beans). Will swing by to check it out. Thank you for the head's up!

Dunno for sure but I'm guessing Foreign Local is the original Windmill brewer.

This is honestly a response to a lot of recent comments on this particular page of the forum. I've been there to pick up some beers. No taproom yet. They are located in the old Sour Note building right down the street from 18th Street. The guy that does this brewery joined Windmill and was the reason they started making milkshake/hazy IPA's and other hyped "styles" of beer and got Windmill's name out there.
I grabbed two of their beers. The DIPA with vanilla bean and caviar is just decent and needs some work. Nothing to go out of your way for. The fruited sour is made with maple syrup, blueberries, cinnamon, vanilla, and lactose. Was actually quite tasty and not as sweet and "smoothie"-like as expected. Heard their lager is actually quite good though.

P.S. - 18th Street has really gone downhill. Agree with you all. When they first opened at the Miller location, the beer was top notch for the area and have to agree that it had a Pipeworks vibe to it given Drew's experience over there. The first batch of Deal With the Devil was only 7% and stood up to Zombie Dust imho (which has also really went downhill).

18th Street’s Dark Lager “Leaders of the Dark” is the best thing they’ve done in at least 5+ years.

    How is that for positive?

Need we remind you that nothing good comes from being positive? When something positive happens, something negative is right around the corner.

Ok. I can help with that.

    Their IPA’s still suck.

All joking aside, I am excited to hear about the dark lager. I wish I had known today. I went to a specialty store WTF (that’s Way the fuck) across town to try to get more soup options for my sick 2 year old with egg/dairy allergies, and it would have been the perfect spot to look for that beer. Maybe she will need more soup soon…

It should be reasonably easy to find since it’s their only beer without the devil on the label.

Assuming this makes it to Chicago, I'm 100% grabbing a single. I'll invoice you if it sucks. :sunglasses:

In a world of pastry stouts and hazy IPA’s, it’s definitely in the top 5 dark lagers you will (potentially) find at your bottle shop.

I was obviously joking...but Chicago is AWASH in dark lagers right now, so I'd bet against this, personally!

I think Fear The (Devil) Reaper is ok. So that's like one out of 347.
