I posted these last Oktoberfest... this was a gift from the wife on one of our early anniversaries.

That's what I'm talking about! What a great story. Like you said, just having something that connect you family and a bit of history is very cool. That's a nice piece too. Thanks for sharing!

VERY cool. I had never heard of an artistic period in German referred to as Jugendstil. I'm guessing those are fairly rare? Great share!

Those are two nice pieces. One of the unique characteristics of many steins are they are hand painted. I love that paw print too. Haven't see that on to many. The second pick, that's was quite thoughtful of your sister. And great choice of beer n the pic too! Thanks for sharing!

Jugendstil is essentially the German version of Art Nouveau. These two were gifts, from my wife, and I think they are 21st C. reproductions. The salt pot is from the period, and it is unclear if it emigrated with the family.

They had roughly 753 children, so the stories get a bit jumbled.

Holy cow! I've never seen a one like that. Is that genuine wood all the way?

I just happened to be watching Antiques Roadshow tonight while reading your posts. I found a screen grab of these wooden steins:

Whoa! Those were either Paul Bunyan's or maybe from the Goliath Collection BC. Sit down with one of those and you aren't playing around. Lol!

Nice item. Hey, I've got a wooden mug, too, but it's ...uh...different.
(Perhaps as different as the current PBR is from classic German lagers?)

A number of US brewers offered pewter mugs as promotional items over the years. I've got a few - Black Horse Ale and Ballantine Ale come to mind. Rather than take a photo of the latter, I'll just add a pic of this POP poster that featured one.
