3 Floyds Brewing (2022)

God forbid a monk gets drunk and offended....hopefully an average comic book color artist will take offense at the new name and get it changed.

Hitting distro. I was told at the pub years ago they couldn't distribute it because of laws that don't allow the distribution of anything that promotes overindugence or intoxication. With their focus on distro and cranking out beers left and right I've been wondering about Drunk Monk because it's one of my all time favorites. Glad FFF agrees and made this move

 

I really enjoy this big, west coast DIPA.

 

Coffee subsiding in Crushing Mass compared to when fresh. Smell is there but not the kick it used to be.

 

Just drove 4 hours to the pub because i was bored. Got a case of Drunk Monk, two packs Cat Date, two packs Dismembers, sixer or ZD cans, dude threw in a free pack of GBH cans and a free Barbarian Haze shirt. Also got the Cheerteam shirt which is fucking sick and the new Zombie Dust shirt.

It's sad when I'm a regular from 4 hours away. They always hook me up because they know I appreciate their work.

picked up a 4pk of Dismembers Only and a sixer of Rites this past weekend. both delicious. very surprised how much i enjoy Dismembers. doesn’t seem like a stout i would normally enjoy but it’s delicious. on the lookout for the cat IIPA.

It's really a non-offensive sweet stout with subtle balanced flavors, but I wish people could have tried the 1st batch which was significantly different and a complete over the top mess which worked. Again, the FFF price point for a 4 pack of good quality BA stout is a bargain.

That pilsner glass on the FFF site is pretty sweet.

 

b1 was growlers only, correct? feel like the description was a little different (no reference of ‘milk’ stout, banana and cherry description was different)

i’m gonna need that pilsner glass for all the world-ending pilsner i’ve been drinking lately.

 

Missed opportunity on FFF branded Dismembers Only jackets.

 

I don't doubt you because I've always respected your posts but even this new batch feels that they dialed in the banana and cherries really well

Drunk Legendary Monk Shade is its usual self. Got Cat Date chillin on ice now.. I'll crack it before I leave my hotel room and report back

I don't care for shit added to my beer but FFF is so nuanced with these adjunct stouts. Crushing Mass and Cocomungo were on their own level but Dismembers REALLY surprised me. But at this point FFF should never surprise us. They're on a fucking roll

And gave me a pack of Gumball pints and a shirt for free. Love these mf's and what a blessing to have in Indiana

 

I doubt it. I don’t think Floyd’s will be able to compete in many of these states. Once the shiny penny effect has worn off, you’ll see expired Alpha King and Lazer Snake collecting dust.

maybe I’m wrong, maybe other markets aren’t fully saturated like ours, but I doubt it. I’ve seen world class beer expiring in several different states.

 

Who knows, but the the guy had no problem putting up a second brewery competing in his own markets (War Pigs).

 

Founders and Bells seem to be doing OK. All you need is a flagship that’s readily available.

Sure, I can defintley find 6-month old two hearted, but All Day IPA, Oberon, and Two Hearted are readily available all over the country, and they sell.

 

Founders is priced to sell. Bells is a good value. 3 Floyd’s is priced premium.

Do you ever see Three Floyd’s on sale at the grocery store or Binnys? Cuz I’ll see deals for Founders all the time. I also see them for New Belgium, who is owned by the same company that now owns Bells. I don’t think Floyd’s can/wants to offer those prices. if they decide to go that way, it will be a departure from their pre Covid
business model.

 

FFF is a tier behind those breweries you listed in size. Nothing new here, those national breweries didn’t need to discount either or change pricing until they hit nationwide scale and then it becomes a competing on price via scale thing once the hype of a new market wears off. You’ll see FFF doing things like 15 packs of Gumballhead, etc. when they saturate the market and have to compete with the big boys.

 

Man. Really digging on Dismembers only. Especially at the price. Also polished off a Cat Date. Loving that WC style. Rites of Ramm for something light and absolutely fresh ZD? They're really reminding me what got me into craft beer in the first place... them...
