Today's tasty'n delicious Impy Stout is from Shortfuse in Illinois, 1995 BBA Impy Stout.
I bought one can of this a few months ago and enjoyed it immensely. Saw a can the other day and bought that one, if I see it again, I'll buy another.

L: Pours a very dark brown with a small tan head that fades to a ring, no noticeable lacing.
S: Snot locker gets vanilla, coffee, booze, char, caramel, a bit of fig.
T: Some bitter roast, a bit of chocolate, toffee, dates, a bit'o of whiskey and some dark fruit.
F: Thick, but not quite chewy, not much carbonation.
O: The can label attributes the name, 1995, the year Goose Island introduced BCBS to the world and changed beer forever. If Short Fuse was trying to "clone" BCBS, they certainly succeeded.

Notes: In 1995 the world of barrel aged beer changed forever. And we're proud that change happened here in Illinois. When we were lucky enough to get a hold of Pappy Van Winkel bourbon barrels we knew we had to pay tribute to the beer and year that changed it all. This big stout has notes of dark chocolate, coffee, and caramel.

Classic beer. This was part of a gift from my old team when I left. Can from last September. Has a bitter chocolate cola to it. I think I’m enjoying this more than the Rye BA version I have.

    Enjoy

Logyard Brewing (Kane, PA) - Kick Back Double Coffee Stout. Very pleasant espresso aroma and flavor, and nice thick mouthfeel.

Good evening impy stout friends!!! Im back with an OG to the Imp Stout world, that probably needs no introductions, but Ill give one any way!
3 Floyds Dark Lord Imperial Stout. 15% ABV 2020 vintage based on the wax color. Pouring this bottle that came to me as part of BIF33 winnings. Ive had several vintages of this beer with my first being in 2005. Excited to have this one to sample and share with this great thread!

    Onto my review:
The beer pours into my snifter at cellar temperature and a creamy tan head foams up almost 2 cm. Cant quite get the full 22 oz into my glass, but its close. The beer pours a black coffee color from the bottle and no light passes through the glass when I hold it to the light. I do get some scattered latticework when I swirl my glass.

Aroma is roasted malt and coffee grounds with hints of dark chocolate and a little charred wood mixed in. I dont get any boozy notes and hops dont make any appearance either.
First sip reveals a medium body with very fine tingly carbonation and slightly slick mouthfeel. the beer drinks easier than anticipated and this could be dangerous at 15%!
Flavor is dark roasted malt and lots of coffee ground action. There is some chocolate in there too, but the coffee is stealing the show here. Definitely not an overly sweet coffee as I actually find there to be a decent bitterness here, but wont attribute that to any hops.
I dont get any boozy warmth on the finish or swallow, just lingering coffee and some dark chocolate.
I am enjoying this brew and thinking its the last thing Ill drink tonight. I also feel like the body is a little thinner than previous versions I have had, but that is an anecdotal data point at best.
    Still worth pursuing IMO!

Enjoyed an old classic today! I know there are a lot of haters out there, but this beer is still so damn consistently very good on my palate and at a reasonable price!
    Cheers!

My first post in this thread. This is fantastic. A blend of barrels with the Rare Dos base stout Doug has perfected from cycle. Bakers chocolate, dark fruit, oak, bourbon char, tobacco. Super well done.

One of those rare weekends for me...just felt like drinking Stouts, in June! Temperature never got above 80, and Father's Day is always a good excuse to drink outa the cellar.

Started on Friday, wanted a coffee stout immediately following some golf (forgot I had two coffee stouts in the fridge...). Stopped at the local Growler Guys for Lumberbeards Lumber Crew, a fantastic oatmeal stout brewed with coffee and maple syrup and still coming in at under 5.5% abv -

Friday night I attacked this beauty (didn't even know Fremont had released this till I stumbled on it at a bottle shop this week):

DS is always a treat: this one is extra-fudgy and familiarly warm.

Saturday's coffee as I hit projects around the house:
Honestly it was excellent; yes it was rich and sweet but not cloying honestly. Fluffernutter mocha!

    Sunday post-church Father's Day coffee:
Really nice coffee presence on this one, leans more towards a roasty stout (not a pastry stout) with some notes of vanilla and cinnamon.

    Last night with my bride:
Her choice too, God love her. Second time having this one; still nice, tons of warming licorice and black cherry underneath a thick oatmeal stout.

Monday morning now, and I'm 9 hours in to my new cleanse and diet...I'll have to live vicariously through this thread for awhile. Sorry for the photo dump, but I wanted to catalogue the special weekend and share it. It was a good time.

Man, ten fidy is my go to for a plain imperial stout. Once in a barrel it falls short of the glory I wish it had. Narwhal is the opposite. Regular narwhal is ho hum, but damn do those barrels add something heavenly to the mix...
