They still have SN/Bitburger 6 packs at the local supermarket :astonished:

And that's a "price chop?" Add the $5 less Lagunitas next to it and it becomes more crazy.

I haven't looked around here in a while, but I'm pretty sure SNPA 12-packs are around $19 at regular price.

Just checked -- yeah $19, but a local has it on sale for $15 -- on my way!

I think these prices are also reflecting a hike because of the price of fuel. My trash pickup just tacked on a $12.59 fuel surcharge.

Probably -- among so many other inflationary influences. But the cross-country differences are always so jarring.

Didn't know that was a factor. And thanks, I hope he responds.

Even though I know it's not entirely the case, when I think of Boston Beer's lineup I think of malty and sweet. When I think of Sierra Nevada, I think of hops. I know that SN is diversified and has been making boatloads of excellent German styles for years, but that's not what I think of immediately. I know Boston Beer has been trying to make people care about their IPA's forever, and I forget about that too...probably intentionally. That might be what's coming into play, though. Especially with larger regional-sized breweries hitting hard times, sometimes you have to pick your battles.

No, I personally have not seen any SN ads while watching TV but I have watched Sierra Nevada video ads via Youtube so my guess is they are advertising somewhere (maybe the West Coast/California?).

Here is one example of a Sierra Nevada commercial:

Every brewery has to make their own business decisions.

I appreciate that both Bell's and Founders despite being "larger regional-sized breweries" continue to produce 'traditional' beers (e.g., Porters). I am pretty sure for both of these breweries their Porters are not top sellers but they decide to produce them for their customers anyway.

    Cheers!

Okay - I asked the beer guy why the prices the prices for SN were so ridiculous and pointed out the price - he said it's 16.99 a 12 pack. The way they have the price tag positioned, you can only see the $24.99 price unless you lean into the case and then you can see the actual price. The $24.99 is the vendor list price.

    That's more like it.

What the hell is a "vendor list price?"

Other than frightening (and off-putting -- wonder how many customers they scared away?).

I have seen anywhere from $21 to 23 in NW NJ and the Jersey shore.

$17 would be a steal, even before the price jump. $21 was at Wegmans which usually has better pricing than most.

Agreed - you'd think they would make a little effort to make sure people could see the actual price.

I suppose that the wording "...this year..." leaves the door open for them to see the error in their ways and make it available again next year.

I miss Bill being in this role. Perhaps they’ll install someone who will be more engaged with the community.

I would never buy another SN beer if they discontinued Celebration.

I can't believe that whatever they replace Summerfest and Oktoberfest with will sell any better. However, the time and cost to produce some trendy ale is much lower which means the replacement beers are higher margin. That's all this is.

Yeah, I thought the Oktoberfest started out strong and then kind of went to just "Ok". I would say that I was more disappointed when they stopped their SummerCamp (mixed pack collaboration). Those were different, fun, and some really good beers.

For those of us who have been "around for a while", I think that it's still hard to think of SN as a national brewery who is struggling with local competition and impacts of COVID and economy most recently.

However, I would still put Celebration, Bigfoot, and other of their beers up against any brewery. I got a mixed 12 pack (Pale Ale, Torpedo, Dank, and Cold Torpedo) this past 4th and loved it. Ok, not so much the Cold IPA. For those who were fortunate to try Bigfoot this year, I think that it was one of their best years.
