I almost relapsed and bought Reserve. Ultimately, couldn't do it since I still have my three bottles from the WW release. I told myself I'd trade two and here we are some several months later having made no moves on that front. It may be the thickest stout series I've ever tried. That's not a necessarily a compliment, even though I enjoy thiccc stouts. Much like you, I'm less likely to pick up Medianoche's in the future after my handful of experiences. May just see if I can bundle the rest of my Medianoche's and a couple other bottles for a handful of wants.
I still have ONE more Bear Temper in my fridge . It's great how a local brewery with only 4 Thousand followers on Instagram is in there with Rev , Fremont and Goose Island . @sulldaddy also enjoyed Bear Temper and hes a BBA Barleywine Heavy Hitter
New ITT but long time Tavour customer. I'd say the shipping at first was rough but they've figured it out at least where I live. I like the new beers that don't get distributed here and gladly pay $2 more than retail per can/bottle because it means I'm not buying a $24-6pack of a beer I may not enjoy. With all that though what I explicitly DON'T BUY is any IPA or smoothie sour that's >2 weeks old already by the time they post it. Chances are I'm another 2-3 weeks from getting my box and I don't think they store their beer cold - as I've had some IPAs from them that did not fair well. My ratio of beer favors the stouts though for this specific reason. What I don't get here that I love - Other Half, Aslin, 3 Sons, Revolution, Cycle, Ology, Mortalis, Bearded Iris, East End, Phase Three, etc.
Yeah, I agree. There are nice beers that pop up for me that are non distro here and very near MSRP, and arent always the easiest to trade for. Fremont BA stuff being the big one for me. If I was able to completely ignore ABC, and kept things limited to a few boxes per year, it wouldn't be so bad relative to the cost of trading. I'd really like to try more Elder Pine lagers but at $7/can, screw that. I'll go with my local guys at $10-11 per 4 pack and probably doing it as well or even better at times. LMK if you ever have access to and want to work something out for BA Westbound & Down stuff!
Thats insane that they charge 7 dollars. I get their lagers here fairly regularly for 4 bucks a pint. I posted one once and someones head kinda exploded and wondered how i get them in CA cuz of how small and far they are here. That said, i would pay 7 dollars with what i know now about the quality if i had never had one before it that makes sense.
I bought that Parish BA stout floating down the lazy river with my kids at a Great Wolf Lodge yesterday (water proof case on a lanyard style). And while the bartender was definitely heavy handed with the 100 proof Knob Creek yesterday, I have most of the responsibility to bear here. I've achieved some sort of penultimate beer nerdom shame that even I don't understand at this exact moment.
Admittedly, they have a lot of beers on my app right now that sound interesting: BA Underworld Barista - Affogato, Summer Starry Noche, Beer Geek Cocoa Shake, and The Broken Tree (2020). Surprisingly, not much is sold out in my timeline, which seemed to be the norm not long ago. Not really interested in starting a box though. One of my two favorite local breweries started a membership, and I jumped on that. Only one big release so far, but it's been wonderful getting some quality BA beers without paying for shipping or having to hunt, although BA beers are still pricey. Holding onto my Tavour account in hopes ADWTD TO drops, but at this point, I fear it'll be beyond my price range. Part of my reluctance with picking up any Starry Noche is the conversation I had with others at Side Project about the consistency / texture of Starry Noche. Is the Summer just as thick, full, and glass coating? Problems with slugs in this batch?
No slug in my bottle of '21 Starry. The viscosity of it was over the top though. It was like a syrup. It was not my thing at all.
Alma Mader. BKS hasn't released anything BA since their anniversary party last year. Fingers crossed for another BA release from this upcoming anniversary.
I don't think I've had a stout from them. I'm interested to know how it is. I dig most of their other beers I've had. To keep the thread on track, I had Straight Jacket in my feed for a couple hours today. Snagged them while I could, and I'm glad I did since they're gone now...
I took notes, but haven't written a review on BA just yet. Reviews on their BA work is pretty sparse so far. FWIW, the biggest recall from it was it being very dark fruit forward. I think that means their Grand Cru should be sublime. Their BA barleywine - Rainchaser - has been getting some attention on Untappd. Up until now, all of their public stout releases have been milk stouts.
@Prospero …and I just made the drive to Mortalis today. If you trade, I’m sure there’s probably things in the Colorado area I don’t see here.
Anyone pre-ordering Anchorage's Maumasi? Apparently it's Anchorage's first triple barrel stout. It's sitting at $49 for a 375mL. Adjuncts of coffee and coconut. Actually has me tempted to break my Tavour dry spell, but still reluctant. They probably would've had me without coconut or any adjuncts. For all my hate for Anchorage's prices, this one seems decent, at least thru the lens they've set. I'm surprised it's not $80+ since it's triple barrel aged. I guess it's only 8 months, 6 months, and 4 months in each barrel. Seems like their double barrel aged spend just 2 less months in barrels.
I just had a box close, along with buying the Rev Season Ticket, buying the recent Wax Wings release, and my local brewery getting ready to release their BA stout, I'm sitting this one out. But yeah, I was surprised at the price too. Figured it'd be $75+. It's funny that we've been conditioned to think that $49 for a 375ml is a good deal. $3.86/ounce. Oof.
I cant ever Imagine rolling up to a brewery and ordering a 4oz pour and paying 12-15 dollars plus tax/ tip and that being one of their cheapest options for a BA Stout pour . Times are wild
