Hello, I live outside of Lisbon in a town called Cascais. Are there any other BAs living in the Lisbon area who'd like to meet up for a pint or two? My favorite spot right now is Dois Corvos in Lisbon, but I wish there was a decent craft beer spot that was closer to home. I went to replenish my supply of DIPA at the Dois Corvos taproom last week and I'd bought all the remaining inventory the week before.
Barring things getting worse, I'm heading to Portugal at the end of September for 9 days with my wife. We're thinking about making a day trip to Cascasis near the end of our trip. Staying in Lisbon, Evora and Porto along with two nights at Quinta de Sao Bernado in the Douro Valley. I've done some research on beer places, checked out what's trending on tap lists and with Portugese breweries on Instagram, but would love to hear suggestions from someone there on the ground.
The craft beer scene here in Cascais is not the best. The beach is nice, though. If you're coming out this way from Lisbon, hit Sintra as well with it's multiple castles. In Porto, Letra has a great tap room & beer garden called Letraria Porto. I went there multiple times last summer. I would also visit a Port place, since it's Porto. We toured Taylor's cellars and learned of the white Port-tonic, which is a very refreshing drink.
We have friends who used to be wine importers and they had white port in their portfolio. I’m not a big fan of port, but I was impressed.
Hey @Sayson - I've been off of BA for quite a while now and just saw your post. I moved to Lisbon about 5 months ago from Los Angeles and have been missing out on the beer community I once had! While I think Dois Corvos definitely is the best brewery in town, (especially since they hired Lee Chase) I tend to frequent Outro Lado, 8a Graca, Sputnik & The Queen Ale since they're all much closer to where I live in Mouraria and always have pretty solid tap lists and/or bottle/can selection. Would definitely be down to meet up for some beers at some point, so let me know next time you're headed this way. I also just had a few cases of beer from my cellar in the US that I shipped to myself on a palette finally arrive, so if you're into the heavy hitters, have some great vintage Bruery & Firestone barrel aged bottles (among others) that I could definitely use some help with. Cheers!
Any additional suggestions beer wise for breweries, taprooms, bars, etc. in Lisbon or Porto? Figured it wasn't worth opening a new thread since this one is still less than a year old. I'm not sure if we'll end up anywhere else in the country while in Portugal for a week, but we will be visiting for the first time in the fall.
Aloha! I recently moved from Beervana (Portland, OR) to Ann Arbor, MI, and we are applying for the Portuguese Golden Visa. We are in Portugal through August 20, mostly in Lisbon (Alfama) but in Porto July 26 to August 1 and Cascais from August 6-10. Love to get suggestions and definitely up for a meet-up. I still have a pallet of beer and wine in Portland, waiting to ship to Michigan. Plan to spend 3-6 weeks/summer until we eventually move to Portugal. mahalo!
I wish I saw this earlier. I was in Portugal in early July. For Lisbon, definitely visit Outra Lado which is a bottle shop with great selection (picked up a few bottles of Cantillon for the week there), Dos Coirvos (brewery) and the Delirium Cafe. That should satisfy your beer itch. Otherwise, enjoy all the great food. I’ll recommend Boa Bao (go early, about 20 mins before they open) and Sala De Corte (make reservation well in advance).
Also, if you are driving from Lisbon to Porto I highly recommend a stop in Ericiera. Nothing special beer wise but it’s a beautiful coastal town with plenty of fantastic food.
I’m in Lisbon during the week and Outra Lado is only open on the weekends. Anyone know if there is any other place to pickup Cantillon in Lisbon or Porto?
are those new hours? We went during the week in July. Try LIBEERDADE. We werent able to get there but I have heard they have Cantillon from time to time. Not sure of hours though.
