@KRBCEric how about dates on Just Outstanding cans?

Headed to a local spot that has the Italian Pils on tap this afternoon, then placing a order tonight. SO stoked for Dirty Hippie again!

We likely have multiple canning dates for JO. I’m about to jump on a river trip in Idaho, but I’m sure you can email the online store portal for an answer. Karla or Tami should get back to you

for what it’s worth, we had a break through on our canning line about a month ago. Did some aftermarket changes that really increased our quality and shelf stability.

I’m hoping Dirty Hippie hits distribution. As much as I’d like to take advantage of the free shipping, I’ve really cut back on my drinking lately and I wouldn’t make it through a case fast enough to enjoy the beers fresh (not to mention the backlog of beers already sitting in my fridge). I’d really love to grab a 4 pack.

When did Kern start using UPS for shipping? Did I miss something? Fingers crossed I get a box tomorrow or Wednesday.

Think free shipping was UPS Ground. Paid shipping is still GLS Overnight TMK.

Dirty Hippies & the others arrived all nice & warm. Yes, I think I’d much prefer paying for shipping. Free is never free. Guess the hippie will have to wait till tomorrow to go down. ✌

@KRBCEric Will Kern River/El Segundo collab OG IPA be distro’d to OC/LA area? Or is it available at El Segundo?

The website let me choose GLS for free shipping - at least in my experience, UPS drives around in 100F temps for 12+ hours before delivery, so I generally avoid them for anything IPA related.

    Back on the grid...

Free shipping was either GLS or UPS. We have had a lot of complaints about GLS, so we threw in another option and most folks get UPS the next day as well. I suppose UPS might be the default?

Our version will be available via distribution and the on-line store. We will be brewing a different beer with them in mid-August.

    Cheers,

UPS delivered on Wednesday and the cans were warm. I’d say outside ambient temp. My first email notification said delivery on Tuesday which I got another one soon after saying it’s now to be delivered on Wednesday. So it was probably sitting in his van overnight? I wish I knew when the Long Swim cans were canned before I purchased. I would of purchased more of the Lounge Chair instead. Maybe I’m being anal about 2 months out? But I always like my IPA’s as fresh as I can get them. Not a big deal. I’ve had a lot more IPA’s that were a lot older than 2 months.

While you’re here @KRBCEric, will Dirty Hippie see distribution this time around?

Shipping has been a challenge in our experience. GLS says overnight, but we often get complaints of 4 or 5 days late. Of course, the company won't do anything to help correct the issue. UPS seems to be doing better lately, but they certainly don't guarantee overnight for ground. Maybe it depends on the area we ship to or maybe it is just because it comes from Kernville... Not to make excuses; I'm not stoked that beer gets warm in transit. I always prefer people to come to the source, but some people are really digging the shipping thing.

As for can dates, agreed and apologies on the Long Swim. Feel free to contact us for dates before purchasing, we certainly don't mind. You can email me directly at beer at kern river brewing dot com. Many brands have multiple package dates, so we don't typically have any information on the web store.

I have really been enjoying that Cali Lounge Chair...

Dirty Hippie was just Kern County and Brewery release. It was not picked up by distro. Imperial Reds are not big sellers these days...

Agree on the C lounge Chair. As far as going to the source you know we’ll be there in November. I know once, sometimes twice a year isn’t enough. we do enjoy going to the Big Island 3-4 times a year. So that’s a big chunk out of our pockets for hoppy holiday times. Weather in November will be :ok_hand:.

Glad I got some shipped then, tasting delicious! Thanks so much for bringing it back!

FWIW, everytime you've shipped to me (Sac area) GLS has always gotten it there next day and cans still have a chill (not cold) feel to them. So I certainly can't complain.

True. But for some of us hop heads a really good red or stout (imperial or not) is a must. While enjoying JO, Citra back in the days there was a Dirty ole Hippie and Class V stout that was always in the mix. And when Class X showed up it was a bonus. The other 2 reds I like would be Knucklehead Red and Alesmith My Bloody Valentine. Yes thanks for the Dirty Hippie in cans @KRBCEric.

That's gotta be frustrating. Do you know if any other breweries are having issues with GLS? Going from my personal experiences I've ordered shipments from probably a good 20 or so different breweries here in California since the pandemic started, including yours, and (knock on wood) haven't had any problems other than one time I asked them to hold my package at their facility where I was going to pick it up in person and instead they sent it out for delivery. All or nearly all of my orders were shipped via GLS. Hopefully you'll have better luck with them, and/or UPS, in the future.

Thanks for all your input here Eric!
