Next up is Slow & Steady from Cabin Brewing in Calgary, Canada. Wheat Wine.

Canned May 2022. Poured from a can at fridge temp. Pours a nice opaque light brown with off-white head. The nose is full of toffee, dark bread, and a strong nutty note. White chocolate. A bit of wheat and raisins. Really interesting and definitely makes me want to take a sip!

The taste largely follows the nose. The nuttiness really comes through here. Walnuts and almonds mostly. Caramel, honey, bitter citrus peel, wheat, brown sugar, and a bit of chocolate. Very smooth with a nice marriage between bitter and sweet.

Mouthfeel is fairly light and the alcohol is pretty silent on the taste.

Supper on the deck of cheeseburgers and a couple of salads from a nearby farm stand. Took our lives in our hands with a roached gas grill, but cranked it up to wicked high for 20 minutes and I think I can claim victory over whatever was in there... It's little things when we rent places - this grill did not get trashed this year. No excuse for the multiple slobs who used it, but also no excuse for the property owner...simple and relatively inexpensive fix.

So...back to Oxbow with a full pour of Grizacca. This says it is a grisette brewed with Maine spelt and dry-hopped with Azacca hops.

It looks darker than it is (going for the scenic background). It's a very pale, moderately hazy golden orangish color. The head is pure white, short-lived, and non-clingy. There's a nice ring of bubbles supported by a stream of rising microbubbles.

The smell is mild. Citrusy/tropical, a very mild earthy funk, and a bit of faint spiciness and a little cereal malt. Enticing, laid back.

The taste is bright. Mildly tart at best and I get a bit of sweetness. The hops come to play - mango and orange with a little lemongrass, green herbal. It is all making for a very bright taste that isn't overblown. The earthy funk is quite subdued, there's a mild bitterness followed by a pleasant level of peppery spiciness.

Light feel, slight tingle from the lingering peppery notes, mild bitter.

This is a sort of delicate beer and I can see it going with lots of different foods. It's soft, light, yet nicely flavored and fun to drink. I'm feeling right around the 4.0 mark here. Nice, "friendly" beer.

    16 ounce can.
    Canned 07/14/22.

    Collaboration w/ Freestyle Hops.
Dry-hopped with Riwaka and Southern Cross from Freestyle Hops.

Moderate to vigorous pour yields a one inch white head over a very light golden, near cloudy body with scant lacing.

Nose of melon predominately at first, with a tiny bit of orange and vanilla appearing under the melon.

Taste of melon, with orange and vanilla coming near midway through on the palate to the finish.

Feel is not as good as I had hoped, but good nonetheless.

Overall, a pretty tasty offering from the boys on the lake.
    Cheers!

Last new beer for the weekend. "Q" from Ogopogo. Stout aged in Woodford and Heaven Hill barrels for 11 months.

Poured from a can at fridge temp. Pours jet black with a nice amount of head that quickly goes away. The nose is decadent and awesome. Fudge, bourbon, toffee, a bit of maple, and some nice dark fruit. Blackberries comes to mind.

The taste follows the nose. Smooth and creamy! Some nice chocolate and toffee hit immediately. The roasted malts emerge after a second and hang out in the aftertaste. Some coffee, tobacco, vanilla, and a bit of coconut. Campfire smoke, and some nice dark fruit. The alcohol does come through with a slight burn on the way down. It's 13% so it makes sense, but it's not overpowering.

The mouthfeel is nice and creamy. Overall, I'm really digging this one. Would definitely buy another.

Have a good Sunday. Was up playing Anno 2205 until 10AM and then I crashed and woke up at 8PM. Still haven't eaten. Might just air fry up some bacon. Also have hamburger helper. I haven't played an city/economy sim in a long time, this one is outstanding. Great sci fi story elements too. My city design needs a bit more artistic approach lol.

From @snaotheus NBS BIF. Best of Hands The Summoning. Wow what a fantastic American imperial stout. Dense pitch black color, lasting dense dark brown head retention and spotty soapy lacing. Aromas and flavors of big dark chocolate, cocoa, espresso coffee, roasted nuts, toast, dark bread/crust, molasses, citrus peel/rind, peppercorn, pine, smoke, charcoal, wood, raisin, plum, fig, date, herbal, grass, and yeast/charred earthiness. Moderate pine, citrus rind, woody, spicy, charred bitterness on the finish. Slight English yeast tang. Medium carbonation and fairly full body; very creamy/silky/bready malts, moderate sticky hops, chalky roast, and lingering resin dryness. No cloying/acrid/astringency. Mild warmth of 8% after the finish. This was a great crossover between American and English styles. All English malts by the looks of the grain bill, with nice American balancing bitterness of 51 IBU. The Yeast complexity has a lot of nice dark fruit/molasses notes, but doesn't get overwhelming. 4.23

Next up is Goldfinger Brewing Company - Pre-Prohibition Pilsner. This was brewed in collaboration with Live Oak Brewing.

Pours a crystal clear straw yellow - gold color. Three finger white sudsy head forms on the beer, lingers a moment, then dissolves until this thin layer of velvety foam remains on the top of the beer. Bright and effervescent. Aroma has notes of wonder bread, flaked corn, a touch of sweetness from the malt, and some subtle herbal hoppy notes.

Taste follows the nose with notes of white wonder bread, a hint of toastiness, some corn flakes, and then a surprisingly sharp herbal hops character on the back end. There is a subtle sweetness to the beer, but its balanced out by the sharp hop bite on the finish. Really does a great job nailing the pre-pro style. Feel is light, crisp and bright. Lively, prickly carbonation. Balanced finish.

Overall this was really excellent. I have not had Live Oak's pre-pro pilsner, but I imagine theirs would also be really nice.

    Chuckanut - Maibock

500ml bottle served in a big mug. Didn't find a date on the bottle. Bought it at Full Throttle Bottles yesterday.

Pours clear golden, slightly brassy, medium to large head that collapses into a half finger thick dense layer, lots of active carbonation. Smell is lager yeast, a little spicy, lots of grass.

Taste is moderate honey sweetness, a little hint of lemon, a stronger honeysuckle/floral note, something a little creamy about it.

Mouthfeel is moderately thick but very effervescent. Overall, this is a very enjoyable beer.

Really enjoying all these New Beer Weekends. Had to miss last week as we were traveling back from the in-laws for my daughter's third birthday, but getting back in the rhythm.

Tonight's beer is from @TurkeysDrinkBeer I've proxied a couple times for him and he's always been very generous. The kind of person that makes me happy to be part of Beer Advocate.

    Poured from a bottle.

Pours black with about a fingers worth of foamy mocha head. The smell was just a hint of booze with chocolate and a bit of coffee. On first taste, I got mostly coffee, which I personally am not a fan of, but after a few drinks I started to get more chocolate with just a bit of barrel. Medium mouth feel that got easier to drink as it went. It was what I was looking for in a nice Sunday evening beer.

Decided to get myself down to Denver to hit up wynkoop brewing for a bit of a chill late night out. Decided to give their belgian gold stong ale and Weissbier a try.

The blegian was oddly sweet if we're being honest but it had some nice yeasty malty vibes
    [IMG]

The Weiss which i think is supposed to be a verman style hefe is pretty darn good. The smell is a bit funky but the taste is pretty awesome and goes great with the beer pretzel they have on their late night food menu.

Unfortunately we have not made this dream happen yet and I apologize that I did not make that clear - we are renting for the week, but we continue shopping. Something we really want to try to do - have a place to retire to on a lake or pond.

I went to Forager in Rochester, MN Saturday 8/6/2022,. Had a full pour of Murmur and Cashtonbock with my pizza. Both these beers were good but I didn't get a accurate rating on them since there was no crowlers to go. Cashton was a odd beer and I really wanted a can to go to get a good taste of it. A Maple sap bock.

But I did get a 750ml can of Painted Ceiling Italian Pilsner to go. And I'm a drinking it now. 6.0% ABV
Look: Transparent Straw yellowish light gold. Decent white head that leaves plenty of lacing.
Smell: Lemon grass, herbal, floral sweet malt. Smells good.
Taste: Starts out with a slightly Sweet beady malt, Then lemon grass, floral and herbal flavors take over. Next a slightly bitter cracker pepper flavors shows it's power. Finishes dry and slightly bitter. There is a lingering after taste with a touch of lemon mixed in.
Feel is good, not thick or thin with some carbonation in it.

I like this beer, It went good with Greg's Meat shop German style summer sausage.
