Say what you want about pastry stouts, but this is fantastic. I don't find it too sweet - just a really good beer.

This was one of my favorite beers ever. Would have gotten more but the price tag is a little aggressive. Would buy again after having it, though

Never have had an imperial stout that was legit Brownie Batter with Coffee in my life.
Extremely well made. Sweet chocolate, caramel, some hazelnit/marzipan and vanilla with coffee all in one.
I expected it to be less sweet but from what i read thats the style they went for. Extremely grateful for it abd glad i have tried it cuz it's somethingi believe @micada had mentioned/offered before IIRC.
Overall i wouldnt buy this myself knowing what it tastes like but i enjoyed this during this blackout.
    Thank you!

Rated a 4.33 in BA DB
( btw my power is STILL OUT ...since 2pm now 3 minutes till 10pm)

Gonna explain this the way i did to @Beer_Economicus
I love this beer right now.
"Not sweet at all. Big bold roast malt , nice sweet aroma from the barrel ( not candy sweet, you know the kind if nose on bourbon i mean) a well blended balance of heat ,,cocoa anddark chocolate flavors complemented by the alcohol ( 10%) "

Finally getting back to an Imperial Stout again, glad to share with this awesome thread. This is from a trip I took to PA in July. Boneshire Brew Works Dark of the Forest Coffee Imperial Stout. 10% ABV on the can.

    onto my review:
Sampling a cellar temp 16 oz can picked up at the brewery about 5 weeks ago. No date stamp on the can. Also my can says 10% not the 9.2 listed on BA.
Im pouring into my trusty snifter and the beer pours a rich black coffee color and no light passes through my glass.
A dense yet fluffy khaki colored head is 3.5 cm and slightly overtops the glass rim, but doesnt spill over the side.
this foam fades slowly to a sturdy surface covering that remains through the sampling. I also get dense lattice when I swirl the glass or take a sip.
Aroma of this beer is dark roasted malt with some coffee grounds mixing with a bit of dark cocoa powder and some slightly grassy hop character in the background. The ABV is fairly well hidden on the nose.
First sip reveals a medium body and fine tingly carbonation. Texture is soft and slightly creamy.
Flavor is roasted malts and coffee grounds as the dominant flavors. I get a little bit of dark cocoa too and hints of brown sugar for a little bit of balance. No ABV hints and hops are absent in flavor profile.
A decent enough coffee imperial stout, glad to have tried this one.
    3.98 in the BA DB

[IMG] Okay. This one is special. I really just picked this up as a recommendation from a dude who works at the store I frequent. 10 bucks and change a bottle, I didn’t take it lightly. Turns out, this will probably end up close to the highest rated stout I’ve ever had.

Pours an oily black with some amber/ruby hues in the light. A half finger of root beer head quickly fizzles away. No ring, no lacing. More like bourbon “legs” that seem to cling to the glass, although this is not a bourbon barrel aged beer. Nose is molasses, maple syrup, alcohol, chocolate, and bitter coffee. Taste follows suit it a bit way. Definitely sweet, strong roasted malt backbone. Alcohol burn intensifies as it warms. Vanilla, raisins, prunes, and black cherries. Holy shit this is complex. Feel is oily, thick, chewy, and slick. Very much mouth coating. I’m going like 4.5/5 in all categories. I think I’ve maybe rated 4 beers that high total, so I definitely hold this in high regard and recommend it absolutely. Cheers.

Hey Harley @BigIronH , great minds drink alike and i just litterally stumbled into your post LOL!
Unfortunately, i am not feeling the same level of love for this. I am enjoying the cognac-like dark fruit and chocolate flavor profile BUT it is coming across like the ghost pepper of barrel aged beers on the back end of each sip that i am finding hard to overcome. Some BA beers will warm the pipes on the first sip only...Guess this comes with the abv territory we are sipping on! Still a totally fun beer to try, glad i found this while in PHX this past spring. Unfortunately, NC/SC liquor laws do not permit a beer at this abv or Utopias...which cracks me up since i live in the cradle of early American moonshining...
    Cheers!

Agreed it is hot at the back of each sip, Tom. I just enjoy the complexity of it. Have you ever got to try any real deal white lightning?

I have not Harley. I asked a few of my imbibing friends in the neighborhood and they have only come across 140-150 proof (sic). This maybe a great Off-Topic conversation to start.
    Cheers!

Enjoying another PHX pickup from last spring. Forever a lovely roasty non-BA stout that has a viscosity that makes it easy to sip on, even on a 75-degree day south of Asheville!
    Cheers!
