For me I was a massive Sixpont fan. I loved their beers and their business model. Having Shane on BA was fun as well but every since the sell out they have gone down hill and actually have reversed progress.

    1. Reversed Progress: For example Sixpoint under shane came up with the innovated SLIT hole at the bottom of each six pack package that allowed you to view the canned on date on the actual can! Brilliant idea but that is no longer a thing.

2.Quality Drop/Communication: I used to love Bengali and recently I had a terrible experience with it, so bad I actually emailed them and got no response at all, this was months ago. And there is no number to call. On top of that there is no apparent reach out on BA that I know of.

    3. LONG Shelf Life: I bought sixpoint the crispy with a best by Date of DEC thinking that should be fine only to find out once I read the date more clearly it appears the canned on date was in January! For a long time they were using 7 months shelf life for resin and at one point was even using 9 months for hoppy stuff. And a year for their lagers. Way to long shelf life in general.

    4. The Sell Out: At least we got a letter from Greg when stone sold out, Shane straight up vanished. I will always respect Greg for that and equally disrespect Shane for not doing that.

    5. Hypocrisy/Contract Brewing: Sixpoint loved to call out other breweries such as Brooklyn Brewing for their contact brewing operation only for them to eventually end up doing the same damn thing. Also they wanted you to think the beers you were drinking were brewed in Brooklyn went most of the time they were not!

I can go on and on but that's my two cents on a brewery I once loved and don't anymore.

    What about You?

No longer love Sierra Nevada, but still like their product. Hurts to say.

Anyone know why their Fall Seasonal is yet another IPA? No Oktoberfest or Tumbler or something other than an IPA.

Lagunitas. Victory. Sierra Nevada. Alesmith. Osker Blues.

Why? They all turned to a massive shit IPA portfolio and abandoned most things.
Alesmith: Its easier to find Party Tricks than Speedway out here now.
Lagunitas: where the fuck is last years Willettized?
Victory: cant find their stout either
    Sierra Nevada : no comment
Osker Blues : Old Chub and Ten Fidy are non existant. What happened to G'Knight

Every brewery now that doesnt do hyped up Special Releases for weridos with yeti bags waiting in line only releases IPAs

Maybe if the population were cut in half cuz i know it isnt their fault
So i guess i hate beer consumers.

    Yep. Hate all you guys

    Trillium.

As early as 2015, they were my absolute favorite brewery. Higher than Hill Farmstead and Tree House. Even in 2016, after their (first) Canton location opened, they were still right up there.

I don't know what happened, but the big change for me was when they started canning their beer. I still recall getting that first canned batch of Congress Street, along with a few other bottles of their other beer. The bottles tasted great as ever, the cans were a complete mess. Just a completely different beer. It had this very strong, what I would call "off" flavor to it that I still can't place (peanut shells?) and it's been in every hoppy beer I've had from them since. I chalked up that first canning run as "growing pains". But, at least for my palate, they never got out of it. I tried cans over the years of pretty much all my favorites, but they never hit the sweet spot again.

And don't get me started on the hop burn. That's a flaw, not a feature and I will die on that hill.

Their canned dark beers aren't bad, although they look like crap (no head, no lacing, sediment occasionally). They also do some decent wilds. But the IPA's are what I loved, and now I can barely finish a can. Or a pour.

I don't know what happened, but this is the first, and honestly only case of me saying "the beer changed" and being 100% confident that it's true and not just my palate. I know many others who agree.

But they're still doing great for themselves and I hope they keep up their success. I'm just done giving their beers a chance. I've accepted that they just aren't for me anymore.

I'm surprised you wouldn't include Stone in this list. They also seemed to switch to an IPA portfolio (for the most part) and they abandoned so many of their great beers (Old Guardian, RIS, Double Bastard, etc.)

Stone. They used to be my favorite - I stood in lines for Old Guardian and other special releases. Barrel aged versions of OG and their RIS were amazing.

Whats funnier to me is all the guys on here who think the "too many ipa" people angry at all this IPA bullshit are over exaggerating
I understand that breweries need to make money...but why all of a sudden do these brewers need so much money to survive?
    Well....expansion.
Expansion because they cared no longer about being genuine and just want money.

Why do these places need so many locations?
    Stone. Lagunitas. Sierra nevada.
    Why multiple locations?

Eat my shit. I hope IPA slows down and they come back to the die hards with their tails between their legs when all these casuals only drink seltzer margarita slushies.

"Craft" beer is a fuckin joke nowadays. Its all corporate bullshit and they all report to investors and have Board Meetings ( as sierra Terrance explained)
They dont care about us...and i could give two shits about them

Well, Wicked Weed, because it burned down and was never rebuilt.

    Founders because behavior.

    Goose Island because Josh Noel.

    Anchorage because price.

Against the Grain because Sam Cruz.

Well i live really close to their taproom ( pasadena) and get a heads up when all that stuff drops.
(This is main reason i blame consumers for this problem in the end and not the brewery)

Currently have a crowler of 2016 Double Bastard, had cali Belgique today, RIS plenty times there ( 2012,2013,2014,2016,) BA and non BA OG ( 6-7 different years) and they almost always have a variety of styles on tap.

    Same with Ballast Point
Their Homebrew + Taproom location is my favorite in SD. No crowd, no kids and great beers. Their R&D stuff is the shit, too.

I actually think the "too many IPA" crowd is exaggerating - I'm far more agnostic on the question. I find plenty of stuff I like to drink so I honestly don't care that the grocery store craft beer selection is 90% - 95% IPA. For many people (consumers) craft just is some kind of IPA.
I don't agree with your assertion that they expanded for the money and because they were no longer genuine. But it's undeniable that once you do get to a certain size you need to make a certain amount of money to survive.

    ...
Eh, I highly doubt any kind of substantial IPA slow down is coming. It is still massively dominant in the craft beer market and has the casual craft beer drinkers.

The big guys - yea, probably. Especially the ones that have been bought out ... But most craft breweries - the true local or regional places are not like that.

Victory might be the worst offender. They sold out while being based out of the price gouging capital of the nation. You can charge whatever you want, for whatever you want in Philly and get away with it...yet the most iconic Philly craft brand won't even throw us a bone and send out a few 6packs of moonglow in the fall. Or find some way to release harvest, hop ranch...or god forbid old/oak horizontal. It's just so clear that they would rather lose that business to potentially gain more monkey fans. I can respect that in the right context but again, Victory doesn't have to do that. They could sell out and still make a half assed attempt to keep their fans like some of these other breweries mentioned.

    Green Flash...no explanation needed really.

All too common now the story of quick expansion through borrowed funds and eventual take over. Head Brewer splits. Bigger facilities and beer recipes then changed and/or quality suffered. Etc.

I absolutely loved them as a small local right in my backyard. Chuck Silva is a great brewer. They pumped out an incredible standard line up from the WCIPA, the Imperial IPA, Double Stout, the Nut Brown and Hop Head Red. Silva Stout and Rayon Vert were both incredible beers...

But MOST of all they killed my number one fav beer of all time - Alpine Nelson. WTF inexcusable in my book...
