Give "Very Old Painless" a try, it's ok but didn't impress me for the price. last week it was $30 for a 750 ml bottle. I had a full pour at the taproom only, the price for the pour was not too bad(high)thou

PS lets not argue what a Value is.

Definitely have wanted to try that one as Falling Knife has been pretty solid, good to know it’s back (or still around), thanks!

Thanks! I'll keep my eyes out. I just noticed an absence of them at all of the places I shop for beer, and I regularly shop at Argonaut and Grapevine, which are some of the best liquor stores in the Denver metro. I'll have to check Mile High Liquors again, too. They also have a fantastic selection.

I bought this in Ohio a year plus ago. No date on the bottle, Murky chunky( you can see the chunks in the photo, the base of the glass looks like refried beans)watery caramel no carbonation hoppy quite thin and very mild taste. Guessing this is old? I think this was around $8 a few years back when I bought this. Most I see online are black label and dated. I would try the black label version but this bottle is a no go again. Oh well, I took a chance.

    Enjoy

The butteriest of caramel. Delightful aroma on this one.

Fruited Big Bang from Barreled Souls - 2019 vintage from the cellar. This one leans sweet/English - nice subtle aromatics from the peaches and apricots. Finish a little tart and that’s my only complaint.

I really miss Victory's Old Horizontal!
That was my favorite domestic Barleywine, although I prefer British Style.
I have not seen Old Foghorn or Old Crustacean from Anchor & Rogue respectively in a very long time in my area.
A bottle or 2 of Bigfoot is a yearly tradition, even though it's not my favorite.
It's hard to come across a solid non adulterated Barleywine in this area, unfortunately.
Flying Mouflon from Tröegs was delicious, but have not seen that one either.
I'll have to keep my eyes peeled now that summer is almost over.
I have Blithering Idiot from Weyerbacher, but I drank so much of that stuff, I'm burned out by it.
Maybe I'll find a gem at some point.

Another new English barleywine for me. Ferment Brewing Barleywine Ale. This one is really interesting as it was aged in French oak wine barrels for a year. The dried fruit and wine flavors really pop out in the taste. The rich toffee and sweetness that normally comes with an English barleywine really aren't present on this one. Brewed with a blend of seven different malt varieties from England. Great barleywine!

Barreled Souls- Gimme the Munichwine. I'm in Maine with the family, haven't looked real hard but this is the only barleywine I've come across so far.

Their description, a Munichwine made with 100% dark munich malt from Blue Ox Malthouse in Lisbon Falls, ME. New category to add to the barleywine family. Brewed in collaboration with our friends at Heist Brewery, NC.

Well this is certainly unique. It comes across to me as part (very) imperial hefeweizen and (very) imperial Festbier. Huge flavors of banana esters and burned caramel plus rich, sweet bread and some leafy hops. It's pretty sweet and that 13.8% ain't shy. Glad too have tried it though.

Read a few recent reviews of this that scared me into making sure they didn’t take a turn for the worst. Maybe they did, and I like the worst? There’s a bit of a vinegar threat up front but after that it’s nice lighter end English barleywino sailing into who put that dock there

Another amazing BA barleywine tonight. Monolith from Howe Sound in Canada. Their Woolly Bugger barleywine aged for 9 months in Baker's Bourbon Barrels and blended with additional barleywine. Definitely of the English style.

Still in Maine. I found some gems at a small grocery store not far from here, including several from Struise. Going back for more of these.

Clash of the Titans Special Reserva, matured for 36 months at Struise brewery in GG Speyside whisky barrels from Rothes Scotland, Px Sherry barrels from Jerez Spain, and was blended with the Swiss Grand Cru version that matured at 2364 meters of altitude.

Brewed in February 2018, bottled in July 2021.

This is a murky caramel color. There are a lot of layers here but I'm surprised by the bracing caramel backbone of a traditional American barleywine, it's the most prominent element. Playing nicely off that base are oaky tobacco, non peated whiskey, strong sherry notes, brown sugar, and hints of vanilla. It all comes together really well. I like what extended barrel time and oxygen are doing here. Glad to have come across this.
