IMO, after trying one fresh, all DFH WWS need to be consumed after 10 years on a shelf. The alcohol mellows, and the whole thing morphs into a silky, creamy, wispy, nectar of the gods.

Mortalis non-BA Hazel. Much better than I recall the previous batch. The hazelnut explodes in the aroma and flavor. The mouthfeel is impeccable.

Some of the Pollyanna Personal Chain Letter beers are listed an American Impy's, some Russian Impy's, I believe they're Russian, but WTF do I know, except there is no finer beer than an Imperial Stout.....

Thick'n chewy black pour, big cola head collapses to a ring, some lacing. Boogar machine says roasted malts a bit of vanilla, dark fruit and molasses all make an appearance, a pleasant bitter finish. Thick body, nicely carbonated. Damn fine beer!

I guess it did.....vanilla was spot on here.

$18 for a pint is rough in my book. Better be a damn good wee heavy. Like Thirsty Dog Wulver good (which is $27 for 48 ounces (four pack of bottles)).

Hazel is the Mortalis Hazelnut. Worth every penny! The Heavy Maple is Eli Fish. Was $15/500 ml…not bad. I might consider getting more Hazel. The trip sucks but whatcha gonna do? There is a bunch of Prison City BA Wham Whams around for $12/500ml. That’s a pretty decent drink, too.

If damn good, then cheers! Like a good dinner out, if it’s high quality, then go for it.

Another Imperial stout from me to share with this thread before I take my weekly beer hiatus until Thursday. THis is Low Tide Brewing in Charleston, SC. Brunch with Santa, a 10% Imperial Milk stout with cinnamon and aged in bourbon and then maple barrels. 2021 vintage and I received it in a package as part of my winnings from NFL BIF 33.

    onto my review:

The bottle was put in barrels on 6-21-2021 and bottled on 11-10-2021. I am drinking on 8-14-2022.
The beer is at cellar temp and Im pouring into my snifter. The beer pours a rich black coffee hue with no light passing through my glass. A dense creamy khaki colored head of 2 cm foams up during the pour and almost overtops my glass. The foam fades to a sturdy edge layer that leaves dense lattice when I swirl the glass.
Aroma is a rich mix of chocolate, sweetened coffee and some very faint maple character. I dont get the cinnamon that is mentioned on the label. ABV is also pretty well hidden and I dont get any hop character on this beer from the nose.
the first sip reveals a lighter body than anticipated and the carbonation and is spacious and soft, the texture is smooth and this beer drinks a little dangerous for 10% ABV.
Flavor is some sweet chocolate and sweetened coffee with a bit of caramel and some brown sugar mixing together. Here I get some maple syrup just before the finish , but still no cinnamon. Never any ABV hints and hops are absent too. This is a pretty nice imperial stout that has sweet features on the flavor profile without being cloying or candy-like. I do wish that the body was a little fuller but enjoy drinking this beer.
    4.14 on the BA DB

A bit cool this am, a nice 65°, a nice "breakfast" stout to start the day. Big coffee aroma and flavor right of the bat, maple syrup didn't show until it warmed up. This is really good, brewed with "Tugboat" coffee. I will have to look for that sometime. [IMG]

Cuvee Delphine from De Struise, barrel aged Black Albert. Brewed 12/19 and bottled 12/21 after spending time in 4 roses barrels. I was surprised to see several De Struise at a small grocery store while on vacation. This was only $6.

This is a nice change from the sea of saccharine sweet stouts around today. Roasty almost to the point of ash, with cocoa, leather, molasses, and earthy vanilla. There is a hint of a vinous twang at the finish. More wood than booze from the barrels which works well with the base beer. Nice way to end a great day.

Now the bottle of Nyx from Mortalis definitely had something wrong with it. So I reached out to them on IG:

Did @mortalisbrewing get any complaints about the bottles of Nyx? Just opened mine, smelled funny, tasted even funnier. A sweet and sour mess. Instant drainpour.

They got back to me almost instantly wanting details: which batch, when did I buy it, where did I buy it, etc. Then they asked for my address. That is some seriously good customer service. Looking forward to anything they may send me.
