Paulaner and HB do between their cans and bottles. And HB's cans are easier to figure than their bottles.

Unfortunately I'm not in that area. You could try Beer Menus but I'd be wary if only cause some places will still have entries for last year's release.

Also I misread the first can I had, as the other 3 I have are best by 6/9/2023, not 6/3.

192 oz. = 2 sixpacks of 16 oz. cans or bottles or 6 quarts (half case of quarts).

Although, that meant you still couldn't buy two of these at a time:

I believe the limit was bumped up around 1980, previously it had been set at 144 oz. (12 X 12oz) in 1949. Before that, the limit for those licenses was 72 oz.- one lousy sixpack at a time.

I could have been clearer but what I was referring to was that you aren't going to be able to purchase more than two 12 oz six packs or one 12 pack in a single purchase, as another 12 oz six pack, or the now more common four 16 oz pack, will put you over the limit. You would be able to squeeze in a four pack of 12 oz but those aren't as common anymore.

A friend sent me a photo of Paulaner 24-pack at Costco - hefeweizen, Munchen lager (helles I assume?), marzen, Salvator.

Yep, that's the one, except most other retailers only have 12-packs.

    And yeah, Helles.

BTW -- which Costco(s) do you shop at?

Most likely I'll pick one - it seems like a win-win-win-win proposition.

Sorry, was editing while you were replying -- what Costco do you frequent?

I remember looking at the Lake Forest (Mettawa) Costco beer section and being rather disappointed.

What you are saying is I can drive to DE and walk into Costco and buy beer with no membership, yes?

    Enjoy

Haunted House is a good beer. I was grabbing 4 packs last year on close out for $8.99.

    Enjoy

I mostly go to Mettawa, and I totally agree, outside of Okto season it's not a beer place.

    Ahh -- so it's a seasonal thing.

I was in there last fall (flu shot), but it must have been pre or post Okto season because there was nada.

My recollection is that last year they brought in German beers at the very end of August, if not early September, 3 weeks later than they did the year before, when I almost gave up on waiting. But outside of Okto my only beer purchase there was when I walked in on a pallet of $5 Sam Adams spring 24-packs.

PS. Woodman's in Kenosha lists 12-packs of Founders Ultimate Okto for $16. I am fairly certain though that it's just the regular okto, which I think is still a pretty decent deal for a beer that came as a very pleasant surprise last year.

Pretty sure the "Ultimate" is only available in 4-packs (probably cases, if you bought a case of 4-packs).

I bought the Founder's Okto 2 years ago (I think*) and thought it was pretty lackluster. Then again, most Ami Oktos miss the mark for me.

    *Yeah, 2020.

Maybe. And I say this because I believe the way the law is written is that it's for residents only. I checked and found this:

Can I buy alcohol at Costco in Delaware?

No problem, in Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Indiana, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, Texas and Vermont. If you're a resident, you're welcome to purchase wine, beer and spirits from Costco without a club card.

I have not tried it and a quick search shows some comments about A) not buying too much so as to not raise any red flags and have them check your residency and B) getting into circular discussions with staff who didn't know the law and tried to force a membership card so try at your own risk.

Let me know how this goes for you.

I have a buddy (Phil) who travels down to Costco in Delaware and he likes some of the Costco branded liquor (Kirkland Bourbon). I always assumed he was a member but maybe not? I will have to talk to him when he comes back from his cross-country motorcycle trip (he is somewhere in CA now). He recently sent me photos of his visit to Sturgis.

    Cheers!

That's what singles and quarts are for! (Well, "were for", I guess. Never bought beer in a PA grocery store but I've been buying from those little delis, etc., that also have that license and they seem to have a huge stock of single. Quarts? Ah, they're kinda dead, I guess.)

Yeah, I agree with you and was just supplementing your statement for those who don't know the PA laws and might not get the point of the 192 oz. limit in relationship to 144 oz. standard 12 oz. X 12 pack.

An interesting aspect of the change in the beer case laws in late 1940s from 72 oz. to 144 oz. is that at the same time they lowered the distributors' quantity limit of a "case". Always wondered if that 24-7 oz. case was to accommodate Latrobe, well-known for their small cases, since most brewers' seven ounce returnables came in larger cases.

I've read people's stories of trying to buy alcohol in those sorts of states and it's a nightmare. First, if you get past the person checking cards (think you're clever - nope), you get your alcohol, get in the (long) check out line and then when you go to pay you are informed you must first get a pass. At the courtesy desk. Yeah, the one over there with the even longer line of people returning shit. Get to the front and you're told only the manager can give out a non-member pass. She's not there right now, so wait over there and listen to her being called to the desk over the intercom numerous times while you wonder if it's really worth it...

Aaand... then I leave the beer on the cashier belt and walk. B'bye! B'bye now.

That is actually a brew date code, as are all Ayinger beers. You are okay. Would be a better if a couple months later, but still certainly okay.
