Chicago Stout Releases (2022)

Another week, another Binny's BA Stout collaboration. This one with Noon Whistle, No Sleep Til Bardstown. 2 pack of 16 oz cans. One each of the regular BA stout and one the BA Vanilla variant. Anyone try either of these yet?

 

@GuyFawkes - you manifested it into existence with your dreams, though I doubt this one hits distro. It’s called Static Momentum, a 16% Old Rip Van Winkle no adjunct BA stout, only 1000 bottles available though at the brewery.

 

I've never been too impressed with NW stouts in past, but hopefully they're improving their recipes as we go...

I did pick up Timber Ales' Lumberjack Style recently, going to give it a crack tonight. I've previously loved their non-BA barleywine called Vanilla Maris.

I tried the Lumberjack Style yesterday and wasn't very impressed. Maple and coffee notes are very nice, it's just very sweet. If you're into big pastry stouts, you'll probably like this.

 

Thoughts on Short Fuse’s 1995?

 

The regular is decent enough. Nothing that’ll knock your socks off, but enjoyable.

 

Ok, I tried one. I thought it was pretty good. Cost me $20 for a 2-pack. Worth it; won’t buy more. Not thick, let’s the barrel speak.

 

Anybody try Werkforce’s Chocolate Vanilla Rye Sleepy Bear? Picking up my bottles today, excited to try.

Your glass placement suggests you are much more confident in your ability to not completely pull an SNL sketch and screw that up terribly. My luck would be that I trip on my own foot somehow, and break the glass while creating a terrific mess.

 

Three J. Wakefield BA bombers have shown up here this week in distro- anyone have em yet, either here or from Wakefest? Like the BL drops, these are pricey but for the convenience, if they are great bottles I would splurge.

I saw Old Irving’s Barrel Age Gammelhjartad hit distro, so I snagged one. It’s pretty solid!

 

Sorta a stout? Description reads: "Blend of Barrel-Aged Barleywine aged in maple and port barrels and Barrel-Aged Krampus Imperial Milk Stout aged in rum barrels."

I added it here as an Old Ale, as that seemed most appropriate. American Strong Ale didn't seem accurate, as this didn't have any hop profile and seemed to have more of an English provenance.

 

lol I had struggled with formatting so I just gave up on adding more detail to my post. Reminded me of Half Acre’s Orin. Really struck me as a sweet, almost ‘creamy’ beer - like breaking out a worn old bomber jacket on the first cold fall day of the year.

 

I've been trying to trade for a Mikerphone Handshake and got crickets. Not sure how many folks on BA are hitting those releases up anymore, but there's definitely a few. I know that's not super helpful, but that's what I got.

 

Has anybody tried the BA program from Lake Effect? Tried several of their offerings through the years and always enjoyed their stuff. Especially like their Super Shake BA stout collab they do with Superdawg.
