    Festbier or Amber Märzen?

Haven't had the Märzen yet this year, but it's always pretty consistent.

FWIW all -- the Bell's Octo* is drinking nicely this year.

*They're of the English spelling, I see.

I guess it's because of people who don't want to pay for 12 bottles when they only want 3 of them?

 So, what are they doing with the other 9?

    Expensive drain pour!

It's just 3 Pumpkins and the remaining 9 for $15 isn't gonna break the bank. Boston Lager is always good for a periodic revisit.

    I get'cha -- but it's 3 beers I'm paying for, and not gonna drink.

But you're right, I wouldn't pass up the Boston Lager.

I am not going to lie - I can live the rest of my life (and I probably will) without paying for another Boston Lager.

What if somebody handed you a free Boston Lager?

    Cheers!

I had one on draft last summer (and a six-pack since) and was pleasantly surprised. Have you had it recently?

Then again, at $12 a six, there are plenty other beers I'd grab (and have) first.

BTW, as mentioned previously, $18 for BBC 12s in my neighborhood. Beerflation.

Well, still. Drink the 9 and use the 3 Pumpkins for chili for something.

:persevere: -- I have more respect for my chili than that! I use, almost exclusively, Spaten Okto.

If I ever see it this year.

Never cook with anything you wouldn't drink.

As a matter of fact, after choking on the first bottle of Jack-O last year I used it to bake bread and it wasn't at all bad. By the same token I like to splash cheap chard, you know, the kind that tastes like oak mulch, into mushrooms, and it really makes them much better.

Tell the truth, do you ever actually taste the beer in beer bread?

    Grounder Zealot (547) Jun 20, 2019 Illinois

Of course not - that's the whole point of beer bread - to hide the taste of horrible beer.

Probably why the instructions say you can use seltzer water instead of beer if you want?

Damn, this is a really good idea. I’d like to see more breweries doing this type of mix pack…Paulaner, you listening?

I suspect the mix packs they figure are for people who are just curious about the beers, or they want them for tailgating or Sunday football parties.

Hey, I gotta give them at least a little credit for not jamming one of their Wicked Hazies or another IPA in there. At least it’s just their flagship (non-IPA) Boston Lager and three other beers that are actual seasonals.

Three Lagers and no IPAs? That alone gets a nod from me these days.

Forgot to note, but when traveling to NYC last week I stopped at Half Time and they had this years batch of Pumking. I picked up an obligatory single

I have seen (and purchased) the 500 ml cans up outside of Harrisburg (Middletown, actually). Unfortunately that's not SEPA. :anguished:
