Some unsolicited Tree House showed up on my porch this week. Beer karma is real.

Unfortunately, yes. Have the fam in tow so I have to choose my battles. Did pick this up from the Trapezium Brewery in Petersburg-Primo IPA. Cheers!

 

3 Floyd's Dreadnaught Imperial IPA, 9.4% - this is a delicious, big beer with candied orange, tropical fruit, grapefruit, and pine! Round and smooth and so well made - it'll make you smile!

 

Lucid. An IPA brewed by Kindred Spirit. Another great brewery close to my humble abode.

 

Totally understood on the family vacation front.

Trapezium was a place I wanted to hit at some point after reading about them in a VA beer magazine years ago. Had an offering or two from them at The Answer in Richmond that were ok, but haven't dissuaded me from wanting to visit at some point.

A excellent IPA from Lone Pint. I would rotate this in with Yellow Rose regularly if I could.

Bottle received in Bif15 from @snaotheus

White waxed and capped bottle , chilled and poured into a Spiegelau snifter . Dark brown liquid capped by a creamy one finger foam layer, good retention, settles to a thin ring

Aroma is bourbon, brown sugar

Taste is bourbon, dark fruits, raisins, figs, toffee, roast malts, brown sugar , hint of char

Slightly sweet but not too much,slightly sudsy

That is exactly how I feel about Oktoberfest in August. I don't really want it yet ...butttt I don't want to miss it. The season is short. Cheers!

 

Counter Weight

 

Dang, Granny from Pivotal Brewing, Bristol RI, hazy NEIPA.

On draft at the Pivotal Brewery.

I love most of Pivotal's offerings. For a new brewery they have done an incredible job of coming up with an extensive array of beers in many different styles, most of which are exceptional (the NATO Dubbel is as good as anything I've had from Belgium). Most people will like Dang, Granny. I'm in the minority who does not.

Appearance is mega-hazy NEIPA. Opaque, hay colored yellow, moderate head. It looks like a juice bomb.

Smell is complex fruity, stone fruit, tangerine, guava, grapefruit, citrus, lime. Pivotal says gooseberry, but I've never smelled a gooseberry so I don't know what its like. The smell is classic juice bomb, like a Widowmaker Blue Comet.

Taste is... not what I expected. I was expecting a totally dry hopped juice bomb. The citrus flavors are forward, followed rapidly by IPA bitterness. Tastes to me like this was both dry and wet hopped. The bitterness lingers for a long time, for me an hour after drinking.

The feel is slightly acidic/astringent. Not bad, but not what I was expecting of a juice bomb.

Overall, if you want DIPA bitterness with more citrus forward, you should love this. If you want a totally dry-hopped juice bomb, I don't think this is it.
