Imperial Stout Appreciation Thread (2022)

Pint can dated 5/3/2022, a weird little message says ‘Missing Minneapolis’ under the date. 10% ABV.
Pours jet black with two fingers of rich brown foam into an ‘MIA Beer Company’ snifter.
Smells of vanilla beans, espresso, dark roast malt. (The Stout is brewed with 25 pounds of Ugandan and Mexican vanilla + 25 pounds of Mostra coffee.)
Taste follows. The coffee and vanilla work harmoniously, neither taking over the senses. (The malt back accents the coffee, lactose pushes the vanilla.) Nice balance! It is a fine tasting Stout.
Feel is perfect thickness, not brownie batter, not YouHoo. ‘Rich’ is the word. Limiting the ABV to 10% no doubt made the brewer not overdo the lactose addition.
Overall, here’s a delicious drinking experience - and another fine offering from 3 Sons Brewing, who have a loyal following here in South Florida.
(And 3 Sons is the home of the Hollywood, FL, Buffalo Bills Backers. So what’s not to like!)

Ever try Reve Coffee Stout from Parish? My favorite by far . . .

 

So... guess what appeared at my door today. Yep, an absolute porch bomb from Mortalis Brewing. Will post the results in the latest haul thread because it contains non-stout.

That's great news. I'll probably swing by the paso shop and see what they have. Appreciate the Intel

 

Yeti is the hoppiest stout out there, aggressively bitter. Always has been. The original variants were geared towards that. Espresso oak aged yeti wad unforgiving bitter from the wood and roast of the coffee. It was never meant for sweet.

 

It may just be me, but I’m stoked that Founders will release Mackinaw Fudge KBS again this fall. Loved that version.

 

It sold very well here but we have long winters so a lengthy standard stout season. I think I drank more stouts this summer than ales. Just happened to trade a lot with fellow stout fiends. I will say that I as a general rule do not age Founders stouts.
