Are there any plans for BA magazine to go digital? -(ie. accessible on e-readers, mobile devices, etc.)

Who thinks this is a great idea? I do!

That'd be great. Lots of people, me included, would finally be able to read it.

Its the way to go, and its the way the market is currently moving. As a senior in a graphic design program at Portland State University, we have seen a big shift towards digital magazines built for tablets such as the iPad and Kindle Fire and even for the hand held market. Most of my work in school has shifted from print to digital. I think with in the next 10 years we will see the death of the modern printed magazine.

Its cheaper to produce and is environmentally sound.

I know the Bros have a handful of reasons for not doing this yet (probably the biggest one being that up until recently the company consisted of just two people - them - and adding a digital version of the mag would have been a heft increase in workload) but that being said I'm looking forward to the day I can get my subscription sent to my newsstand on my iPhone. In the meantime, I love the hardcopy version of the mag, I love the ads, I love the feel of the pages (especially now that it's back to glossy) and I love the way they look spread out on my coffee table.

I love the handheld version but wish I could also access it or old issues online at the very least. For example, this month I never received my print version and my brother called me about some information in the issue due to some places I'm getting ready to travel to and I couldn't open my magazine. Instead of waiting for the replacement being able to access it online would be helpful.

Yes, it's something that we'd most definitely eventually like to offer and a topic of much internal discussion.

What's stopping you from reading it now?

International. We're US only at the moment.

Ya, but how is the paper industry going to survive without BA magazine in print?

Ah, ok. First, I did not know he was international until after I posted, and I also did not know the magazine was US only (or I had forgotten). You'd think that some enterprising BA in the US could collect and forward issues to friends abroad. :sunglasses:

I personally hope the digital version is in addition to and not in place of the print version.

Yes, it would be a separate addition not a replacement for print.

Off-topic. And this has been discussed numerous times in the Feedback and Announcement threads.

My subscription is up and I think I'm gonna hold off on resubscribing until digital is an option, even if that doesn't happen for a while. I love the mag but honestly I never really get around to reading them. My tablet or laptop is always with and it would be much more convenient. Apple, Google, and Amazon seem like they already have successful mediums to get the get it out there. I wouldn't even mind paying the same print price.

For some reasons, I still hang on to print as my preferred media if only for novelty's sake. I admit though that it will be very convenient for everyone if BeerAdvocate will release a digital magazine since it will be cost-effective it may even help BA acquire some more following from outside the United States. Still, I hope that BA will keep their print media for much longer even after releasing their digital magazine.

We have no intentions of phasing out print, especially as advertisers prefer it and the mag continues to grow each month.
