Arc’Teryx does some recycled upcycled clothing and bags now, and charge as much or more as normal products. First, I am really glad they do this. But when I saw the prices I was like, fuck, you have got to be kidding me. It’s hard for me to imagine that these items are 100% as good or better than brand new ones, but the prices are as expensive or greater than normal new items.

It’s like back in the day when you changed your own oil and tried to take it to a shop to have them dispose of it for you, and they wanted to charge you. As I recall at the time, they actually made like $0.11/gal. So they wanted me to pay them for them to make money. Get the fuck out of here.

Did anyone go to the fest Veil did (mentioned previously)? Genuinely curious how it was and also curious what SP brought, since they seemed to be the highlight. Also, curious if the oz limit was adhered fo. That is always advertised at FOBAB, but never held to.

Can't speak on how the event was since I did not shell out the clams required for entry but the first session got bottle pours of BBT'21 and the second session got Anabasis b5.

Wait, you were charged by a shop for taking used oil? Damn, I never knew that was a thing. I must have gotten lucky back in the day at my local Pep Boys.

Ok sorry - back to the tote bags or whatever.

Has anyone attended Zwanze day at the Veil? Is it crazy busy?

Never been to one where it was too busy at all. If like past years, there will be a good turnout but nothing overwhelming and they usually run things pretty smooth. Some nice vintage beers on draft and they usually have a cellar sale on bottles as well so good chance you can pick up some cool things to take home.

Thanks @TurkeysDrinkBeer. I'm going to give it a shot. If it's crazy busy, there are plenty of other options in Richmond for a beer.

Doesn't affect me, just a lurker. Does Veil not ticket the event? Seems like every place I have heard of does some type of ticketing, even if it is morning of (i.e. old school lineup).

I think in the past it was ticketed, but it's not this year. If you want a Zwanze pour, you just buy a ticket at the bar.

Was ticketed the first couple times I believe but last year and this year no tickets required.

The busiest times will be right at opening and then probably around time of the toast. After that the rest of the day will be more laid back. They'll be pouring all day and RVA doesn't really support wild and lambic ales like they do candy bar beers so the crowd will definitely be manageable. There will be more people attending for the vintage tap list and cellar sale than people actually attending for lambic and wilds.

No tickets for the event but they are selling tickets beforehand (day of) for those wanting to participate in the toast at 3pm which is the only way to get the 6oz pour of Zwanze as well as the souvenir glass to take home.

Veil has not updated their FB event details but they are on their site for those that didn't notice.

We went to the Zwanze Day event at the Veil yesterday. This was my fist Zwanze Day experience, so I have nothing to compare it to, but it was a pretty nice event. They had 6 Cantillon beers available. The line was a little slow, but not horrible. Does someone usually have an official toast at 3:00? They were a little late handing out the Zwanze pours, so it seemed like everyone just drank them whenever. No biggie, I was just curious how it is usually done.

The Veil is new to our state. I'm aware that about 98% of their line-up is IPAs. My question is, when they release barrel-aged Barleywines and Imperial Stouts, do they go into distribution (outside of VA)?

    Thanks!

Not usually. If they last on-site long enough some eventually make it to distribution but it's not the norm. Not too hard to find someone willing to pickup their stout and barleywine releases though.

What @TurkeysDrinkBeer said. You may find kegs show up at some shops / bars / etc from time to time if the have a relationship with the brewery of their distributor, Reverie, but it's not too often. And package product almost never shows up beyond their taprooms unless you order direct from them shipped. Looks like SC still isn't on their shipping states so no luck there but they do have a few Stouts on their site for those in shipping states.

If you are on FB and into bartering there's the trade group that has a bunch of locals who you could try to find a hookup.
