I was just out in Western PA for work last week. Stopped at Voodoo Homestead, Brew Gentleman, and East End Brewing. They had cans of fresh Gratitude and bottles of several vintages.

So cracking open the first can of the aforementioned East End Gratitude I recently picked up. This is a fresh 2022 can.

Very nice aroma - toasty caramel malt, classic American C-hops - citrus, dank pine. similar flavors in the taste, good balance between the malt and firm bitterness. just a touch boozy. sticky mouthfeel, medium bodied. Reminiscent of fresh Bigfoot.

I also picked up a couple of vintage bottles, I plan to do a side by side with one of the other fresh cans.

I had a 2014 bottle during the pandemic shut down. It was very good. Lightly sweet alcohol with vanilla and caramel. I wish I knew they were from Pittsburgh, I was out there in the spring and would have bought more.

Edit, not a BA bottle. That was a non BA bottle of 2014.

    Enjoy

It’s actually pretty good, but I would rate straight jacket much higher. It really is the gold standard of barrel aged barleywines (for me)

Back on here with a barleywine tonight! This is Boneshire Barleywine 2022 vintage, a 10.4% brew. glad to share it with this thread. Gotta split up my time here more as I went and did several impy stouts over the past few weekends. Gotta keep emptying the cellar!

    Onto my review:

Im sampling a cellar temp 22 oz bottle poured into my snifter. This was picked up at the brewery in July of 2022. Been to the brewery a bunch of times and surprised to be adding this one to the BA DB.
The beer pours a chestnut to amber color leaving the bottle and rests in my glass a darker mahogany with deep garnet highlights on the edges.
There is a dense creamy khaki colored head of 4 cm that almost overtops my glass. This fades to a sturdy edging and leaves some dense covering lacing on swirls and sips. Looks very nice in the glass.
Aroma is toffee, brown sugar and dark fruit, I get raisins and plums and lightly soaking rum, even though I dont think this was ever barrel aged. I also get some lemon notes and a bit of black tea from hops, never any fusol notes or heavy booze.
First sip reveals a smooth texture and medium body with very fine tingly carbonation. Not a sticky feel or coating from this one.
Flavor is similar to the nose with toffee and brown sugar and some raisins giving way to black tea and some pine sap and general light bitterness. The booze is hidden here with no warming and overall this is pretty drinkable for 10.4%. Maybe even dangerously so! Im glad I picked this one up during my recent visit and would recommend to folks who like barleywines.
    4.26 in the BA DB

Does your cellar fill up faster than you can empty it like mine?

    It
It does, although #cellaruary really helped me move stuff.
Ive also consciously tried to reduce how much beer I buy until I a smaller stockpile.
Although I am picking up my Barreled Souls stash in October so that will blow up my plans again.

I absolutely love that beer. I regret not picking up any vintage bottles or the rye BA version, but I was on a cross country trip and the 3 packs I did buy was more than I'd intended from any one brewery. The Bourbon BA version was fantastic, and the peaty scotch BA version is one of my favorites ever (if you're into that sort of thing). Next year I'm going to have to find someone in Pittsburgh who might want to hook me up for some St. Louis beers.

They still had 4 packs of the Scotch Aged version but I passed on that since I'm not a big Scotch whisky fan.

Barleywines are one of my favorite styles. I prefer the less hoppy English Style. The problem I have with most Barleywines out every time a new one comes out it usually Barrel Aged. Nothing wrong with barrel aged, but I would like to see MORE that are not barrel aged. I prefer the more traditional Barleywines. Just give me a good ole Barleywine. American breweries IMO sometimes over due it when they mess with Barleywines.

Double Oaked A Deal With The Devil. I wasn't gonna buy it, I was done with Anchorage, but I came across some Anchorage stuff for cheaper than Tavour offered them so I took the plunge. Just too damn hard for me to say no to barleywine...

Blend 2022 - aged for 9 months in Heaven Hill Bourbon Barrels, then transferred into freshly emptied Woodford Reserve Double Oaked barrels for an additional 7 months.
Well I won't pretend that buying these was a good idea, I won't say they're worth the price, I will say I don't regret the purchase. Drinking this is comparable to drinking cold brew coffee concentrate that I forgot to water down. The intensity of flavors makes this absolutely unique. The relatively short time in the barrels seems to leave the oaky depths and nuance behind in favor of a massive straight up bourbon presence. This works well with the strong toffee and raisin base. This does not represent my favorite approach to double barrel barleywine, I will continue to buy multiples of everything Kane offers at a fraction of the price while this is a one and done purchase. But, these are flavors I enjoy at intensity levels that no one else offers. If you are curious, I say try this once. This is leaps and bounds better than Wendigo.

Looking forward to Deal with Evil...

2020 Harvest Ale from J.W. Lees. A classic, despite the can format. However, I'm really enjoying the small can. I kinda wish more breweries would do this, especially for the big beers. Tons of fruit on this one - apricot, peach, mango, and a bit of pineapple. More fruit than I remember from a J.W. Less. This is one that ages so nicely.

This is tasty. Has the rounded creaminess thing going that a bunch I’ve had recently were lacking.
