6 Acres Farm Brewing in Mexico looks to be building a barn taproom. No timeline but given winters in that area I have to imagine they think they’ll have it built before November.

I had to google that this is in NYS. And for those living in Florida, it looks to be about a 3.5 hour drive. Only in NY!

Dancing Grain opening Friday at 3pm.

Weiss Ferments opening August 26th at 2pm.

And I still haven’t gotten out to Allied

Busy times in the Capital Region.

Dancing Grain is fantastic. Beautiful grounds with a massive wrap-around porch overlooking their farm — the view in the fall foliage is going to be absolutely absurd — with a big, open-air taproom. Had a kviek farmhouse and a cream ale, both great. This is a terrific addition to the 518.

    Other nuggets:

    1) Port Schuyler Brewing is… brewing again. Still no word on an opening but they had been radio silent for the whole year so far so good to have an update.

    2) Seven Points Brewing (replacing Mad Jack in Schenectady) put some signage up so they’re probably not far out.

    3) Whitman Brewing opening up a beer hall? IDK where, their existing space is pretty massive so it’s not like they outgrew it so I’m interested to see where they go with this.

    4) Hudson River Brewing continues to do what they’ve done for like two years and post pictures of their crowlers in nature with nothing that could be construed as news about what they’re brewing, where a taproom is being built, where their beer can be purchased.

I’m honestly close to DMing them on Instagram to just say “what is your fucking plan here” because I am so confused.

On the other side of things, Two Villains in Nyack has closed..

Wow, that's kind of surprising given how lively Nyack's nightlife scene is. I've always meant to stop by here, but whenever I was in Rockland I always opted to just go to D96.

That's a shame. I enjoyed pretty much everything I had from them, but they also kinda just did more of the same NEIPA/fruited sour thing that District 96/Equilibrium/Tin Barn all do in the same-ish area. I would figure being in Nyack proper would help though.

I would have figured the same. Though I am now seeing local posts on FB about a planned 'reopening of the space,' and the Two Villains IG post announcing the closing noting a 'new project called Never Dead Beer' as nomadic brewers. So something must have happened.

Went to Two Villains a few times when I was down that way, loved the space and beers,. Interested to see the next chapter.

Stopped at some new (and new-ish) spots on my travels recently:

    1) Weiss Fermentations outside of Scoharie. A really lovely all-outdoor spot with four beers on, I tried three and they were all great. Just dialed-in, well-made shit. Talked to the owner for about an hour too, she was terrific and has a really cool vision for what she wants to do with their beers. Highly recommend making a trip out there (and Wayward Lane) for anyone close.

    2) Riseform. Not an ideal visit. Sat outside (because we had our dog) and bees wouldn’t leave me the fuck alone so we just had one quick beer, and both got the same one on accident. That one beer was really fucking good, just wish I had gotten to sample more of the menu since it’s kind of an out-of-the-way spot for me.

    3) Seneca Stag pissed me off. They’ve been open for a bit now, at least six months, and had none of their own beers on tap. That shit is inexcusable to me. They only had one tap line reserved for their own beer and it was kicked. I had a Lucky Hare pils instead which was great, but I came out there to try YOUR beer and you had none of it? Gorgeous space but I’m not likely to go out of my way to come back based on that.

    4) Okay Beer Co is a must-stop for anyone going to OH FLX or Mortalis only like 15 mins away from either.

It’s got a super thoughtfully done 70s mid-modern aesthetic, very cozy, and the bowling alley was beautifully restored. Taplist was varied and everything I had was killer and the food, shit, that may have been the star. It’s bar food but with a Cajun bent, we got a bunch of shit and shared and it was all killer.

As far as other shit, Speckled Pig looks like it’ll open any day so I’ll have word on that and Allied Brewing soon.

Agree on Seneca Stag. Have no idea what’s going on there, but will not go back until I know they have product. Thanks for the heads up on Okay. Hadn’t heard of that one and will definitely check it out.

When I was there in August, they only had one of their beers on draft, it was a Festbier. I did find it odd as well. I assume their brewing setup was in the lower level of the barn, maybe they have a really small system? Or having problems getting up and running?

But I agree the renovated barn was very nice, good outdoor space if you've got dogs or kids, and decent food.

I mean even on a one-barrel system you gotta be able to have at least two of your beers on tap at a given time. They have absolutely no excuse.

Not to further dump on Seneca Stag but, yeah. We were up in August and had been looking at them as a potential visit. The place looks very nice by the photos. There was no, and I mean zero, mention of beer on their website or FB when I was looking. There are plenty of other choices, not to mention a hundred wineries.

    - Speckled Pig opening next Friday. Space and beers look great, will likely go opening weekend.

    - Relative Risk (Seneca Lake) opening that same weekend I believe, but on Saturday. Wild annoying that it’s two weeks after I spent 10 days in the area but what can ya do. I’ll check them out in the spring for sure.

Didn't make it, went to a concert instead, and the place was closed by the time I got there.

    - Checked out Allied Brewing, pleasantly very surprised. Great PA that’s clearly an homage to SNPA, NEIPA that was crisp and balanced, non-adjunct stout was delightfully roasty, even the pumpkin beer was extremely well done. If you’re gonna go it’s gotta be when you can sit outside though, very small and spartan inside space.

    - Place called 17 West opening in the bumfuck Catskills kind of by Russian Mule Brewing and I doubt if anyone even knows that place exists. Appears they’re already bottling, but no timeline on the taproom itself.

    - Unwonted Brewing in the works in ROOOON-KONKAMA (IYKYK), no more info than that.

This is not brewery-specific but I did not want to start a new thread. Would anyone know if there are any good stores near Harriman State Park? I have to work up there again today. Almost every brewery in that area, besides D96 which I hit up last week, are closed Wednesdays or open far too late for me to hang around for.
