I’m still stunned that you can’t determine if there is beer in the bottle or not-still saying it could be either. Wtf. Looking at the side that I pointed out where the label breaks, no fill line, a light off of an amber bottle.

A waxed bottle could certainly leak if for some crazy reason the cap wasn’t sealed properly before it was waxed.

The way you’ve told it and people have asked, there isn’t beer everywhere in the box and or on all over the bottle. So, a small leak possible.

The brewery sent it out empty and then your trader didn’t realize it was empty either and traded it to you…

Can we just stop with this nonsense.

It was so overcarbed there wasn’t any room for beer?

Hold the bottle up to the light in your kitchen and post a picture. I’ll tell you if it has beer in it or not for $1000.

How can it feel both empty and full? Either it has the weight of a filled bottle or it doesn't. Just grab another bottle of anything of the same size and compare. Not sure why we need to string this out over multiple days...

If you've been a BA member for a decade and have hundreds of trades, why does your profile indicate you joined on July 25th, 2022 and you've only had one trade?

Not that it matters, but I was very active in this forum from my join date in November of 2012 up until my last post in July of 2020. Used Facebook exclusively to do my trading for a while and when I came back recently to log into my BA account, it wouldn’t recognize my password and for some weird reason whenever I chose the password reset prompt, I never was able to receive the reset email. Saw a trade on here last week I wanted to close so I just decided it would be easier to create a new account.

For what it’s worth, I shipped a Rye BBT first to the person I closed the deal with because I understand the trade game on here with this profile only being active for about a month. Also closed another trade on here where I’m shipping first. My old profile still exists because I was able to find my old posts though.

Bummer. Hopefully the mods can straighten that out for you so you get your trade history back.

If it was shipped from the brewery, careless handling can account for some stout in the plastic wrap.

I have had that happen to me various times when I had ordered directly from breweries.

Beer was good in all my cases.

And yes, sometimes it is impossible to tell if there is beer in a bottle, as hard as that may seem.

    Wait, enjoy the special occasion.

So you still haven't looked at the bottle with a flashlight?

I have. Usually with a beer, you can flip it or turn it upside down and see a bubble in the liquid when it’s turned on its side. I guess I’ll know when I open it here in the very near future but this along with the stained wet bubble wrap is really strange to me.

So you're not seeing any evidence of liquid in the bottle. And you are seeing evidence of liquid outside the bottle.

I know which way I'm guessing on this one

At least take the wax off and inspect the cap? If you plan to drink it who cares about removing the wax? It then might allow you to see some liquid. If not, maybe just shake the bottle vigorously and see what happens?

Back to basics: Just by picking the thing up, one should be able to tell, the weight difference alone is enough. a 12oz can should weigh a minimum of 365 grams. Weigh an empty bottle of the same size on your kitchen scale. Then weigh the bottle in question. Or, weigh an equal bottle that you know is full, and compare that way. This ain't rocket surgery.

Is there a crown cap under the wax "seal", or a closure like swingtop? I have homebrew bottled using crown caps 40 years ago that still maintains integrity (including excellent CO2 pressure). If a crown cap is leaking, I'd say the bottler did a really sloppy job. Don't shake the sealed bottle since you'd be risking flying glass and lost beer. Also a US fluid ounce of most beer weighs between about 1.1 and 1.2 weight ounce. That's should be over 3/4 lb liquid, enough for a weighing to tell the difference.
